Owner description: Located at the ocean's edge, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is a window to marine life -- for dive masters and non-swimmers alike. It's home to sea otters, penguins, sharks, jellies and thousands of other marine animals and plants. Its mission is to inspire conservation of the ocean.

The Monterey Aquarium is world-renowned, and I was initially skeptical that there was more hype than it may deserve. Wow was I wrong! As someone who lives near the Boston Aquarium and has been there countless times, I can honestly say the Monterey Aquarium is a better experience. It's not the exhibits that earns it a higher rating compared to Boston -- it's the breathtaking natural setting on the Pacific with seals and sea otters swimming freely and easily spotted from the aquarium's rear decks. The Aquarium admission is a bit pricey, so I'd encourage visitors to seek deals from AAA, tourism Web sites, Groupon, etc.

I liked all the exhibits, and they have nice sections for our 2 year old boy to play in and touch the sea animals. However, we went on a Saturday, and the place was packed. There was no way we were going to get close to any of the displays for feeding the fish, penguins, sea otters, etc. Probably should plan to go on a weekday.

We just loved this place....even though it was super crowded. Took many pictures and bought the two day pass which was a great idea. We went back the next day to shop in the Gift Shop. If you are in Monterey, this is a must see!

My husband and I enjoyed a day at the aquarium recently. It is pricey to get in $35 adult and $25 for children ( from memory) so it had a lot to live up to . We have been to a number of aquariums in Scotland and Florida and this had the best bits of all of them . We all want to see BIG sharks but I think people should be realistic about what can be kept in an aquarium. There was lots to see ...highlights include the sea otters and the big sea aquarium. There is a detailed 'What's on ' Schedule so it's worth checking out the timings for feeding etc .

We enjoyed watching a group of youngsters get initiated into sea diving complete with full wetsuits , flippers and oxygen tanks. This was in a cordoned off area outside in sea water . Looked like a 1:3 ratio of diver/pupils.

There was a huge area upstairs of things to do for younger children/toddlers and there are several touch pools where the children can get involved . Interested and enthusiastic staff on hand.

It is mesmerizing watching the fish but it is an expensive day out for a family ( also factor in the cost of the cafe)

We also enjoyed the history of the canneries . There is an actual layout of historical items and films which tell the story of this historic area of Monterey .

This aquarium is amazing. The new otter area is so fun to watch. If you live anywhere near here, it's worth it to get the season passes. 75 a person and 50 for students. Helps support the aquarium and you can go whenever you want.
