The Monterey Bay Aquarium is something that appeals to everyone. It's always a little busy, kids are always having a great time, and there's a lot of walking, but everywhere you look there is something to see. One of the best Aquariums.

This is a must see if you are in town. We loved it so much that we signed up to become members of the Aquarium.

“Nice displays”

Loved the crashing wave room, it was a cool simulation. From the deck we could see an otter family playing in the ocean. The jellyfish are really neat. Definitely recommend.

“Incredible, 100 stars”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

Incredible, just incredible. I love aquariums and have been to many, but none better than this. Our 2 year old and 6 year old voted, on our last day, to go back and visit again for a second day. Huge selection of activities for young kids, including lots of hands on activities. Don't miss the jellyfish and the seahorses. All of the exhibits are high quality, well done, with great educational material.

Go early. There was already a line at opening time (9:30 am) on Sunday morning, and by noon the line was outside and around the block.

We'll be back. Definitely.

“Interactive exhibits”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

I am an aquarium and zoo lover and I had high hopes for the Monterey Bay Aquarium as I've heard so many good things about it. It certainly did not disappoint! It was a bit crowded on a Saturday. A lot of kids and families around which made the atmosphere more hectic than I would have liked. However, there were so many exhibits and things to do that the crowds kind of spread out. The exhibits are very interactive: there was a waterfall one, an aquatic/shorebird room with rays and shark and they were very close to people, several places where you could touch seaweed, starfish etc., lots of educational exhibits... For comparison, I've been to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago for the same price ($32 per person) and Monterey Bay is heaps better. I would not pay the same price to go back to Shedd but I will for Monterey.

My favorites were the huge open sea tank where you can watch the big sea turtle, rays, sharks and tuna swim around in a dim setting. It's very peaceful and serene. I also enjoyed the jellyfish exhibit and the seahorse exhibit.

Parking is around $15 but you can park there the whole day so after we went to the aquarium, we walked around Cannery Row. Overall, definitely worth driving down from San Francisco for.
