Owner description: Located at the ocean's edge, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is a window to marine life -- for dive masters and non-swimmers alike. It's home to sea otters, penguins, sharks, jellies and thousands of other marine animals and plants. Its mission is to inspire conservation of the ocean.

Plenty of hands on activities for the children; however for adults it doesn't have to be so "whizz bang". We would have preferred to just see more animals. The opening times could be earlier.

To get a chance to visit this world class aquarium was indeed a fantastic event. Ironically, the last time I was here the aquarium was just being talked about, no real plans etc. so needless to say a very long time ago. Seeing the bay as it is now was just a little shocking to say the least. The old charm was gone unfortunately but the new aquarium was truly great and the new facility is indeed awe inspiring. In particular the attention paid to children friendly exhibits and accommodations was very well done. This is a natural destination for families, if they can afford it that is. Our adult price for admission was $35 I believe, a bit much I felt but after visiting this place it didn't seem that out of line. The cost to run that place must be huge and all the exhibits were impressive to say the least.... with unbelievable amounts of fish, crustaceans, etc. etc.... galore.
We haven't visited but a few aquariums, highly rated and this one is right up there for sure.
The surrounding area is beautiful with lots of hotels and restaurants but do be prepared to pay for them.
With all that, don't miss this place, wonderful for the entire family and truly awe inspiring.

Just returned from a trip here and LOVED the aquarium - it's crowded but worth the trip! The Jellyfish and the seahorses were my favorites. Kids of any age will love it here. Great place for families. I can't recommend it enough!

If you're looking for an elaborate aquarium, you will be disappointed. You will not find too many places that has so many variety of jelly fishes. They have lot of scope in terms of shows. If you're used to sea world kind of shows, you will be disappointed. Kids love this place though.

Pretty much everything's been said. We visited on MLK holiday and even with the larger crowds it was still very manageable. We also saw whales in the bay which was unexpected but very cool.
