We arrived on Monday 5 April right after Easter at 3pm. Our room that we booked was not yet available so(unprompted by us) Patrick at the front desk upgraded us to a Suite and volunteered to have a rollaway bed brought in for our kids. Now thats Customer service, you won us for life Patrick with that move! Let me tell you I have been to over 35 countries worldwide and stayed in hundreds of hotels. This place is totally unique and beautiful, the location is fantastic, dead center in Moneterey and right next door to the Aquarium. We had spent easter Sunday weekend at the Ritz Carlton SFO. This place makes that hotel look really old. The Clement suite was absolutely gorgeous and vast. Our king bed was in a separate room behind fogged glass doors, a bonus for parents with small kids.We also had an inroom fireplace, it was great to have the doors open to the ocean and the fire on. They have a great feature on all their phones called Instant service, they were prompt and responded almost immediately everytime. Now about the food, it was simply INCREDIBLE! The scallops the best I have ever had in my entire life, the breakfast was superb and BTW all the food priced exactly half what we paid that the Ritz in SFO. The restaurant is facing the water and its filled with amazing sun in the mornings. You can also see plentiful sea otters just outside your windows. For us the Clement was home for three days while we visited Carmel, Big Sur and of course Monterey. What a wonderful place, we can't wait to go back, our kids wanted to move there, thats rare for our kids to love a hotel that well. All the staff that we encountered were terrific, well motivated to make you happy and meet and exceed your needs. The valets were also fantastic, very timely and courteous and attentive. BTW I see people on here belly aching about paying overnight parking for the valet at 21.00 thats nothing people, we had to pay 65 a nite at the Ritz in SFO, now thats plain crazy. One last thing, the bathroom was amazing and our king bed and the crisp linens was like sleeping on a cloud 100 percent more comfortable than the Ritz . We love you Clement!!!!!
Sincerely Dave B. Sterling, Va.

You should stay here! It is a beautiful hotel, everything is done at a 5 star level. The service we experienced was top of the line. Our room was beautiful, comfortable, romantic, and there was a live orchid plant in our bathroom. Everything is state of the art, TV, decorations, bedding, everything! The work out room was great. The C Restaurant was delicious! We enjoyed walking the area. Great breakfast restaurant with a view just a short walk along the walking path. There isn't one think we didn't like but since they want me to state something I didn't like I would refer to the valet parking (it got a little congested).

From the moment we drove up to the front door it was a great experience. Brian Winderlich (sp?) one of the Bellman took such great care of us. Showed us around the hotel.....let us know about all the sites and showed us all our amenities our room. He was very knowledgeable of the area. I can't wait to come back and spend more time at the hotel. Beautiful property and wonderful staff, especially Brian!

We went over Thanksgiving weekend as a couples weekend getaway. When we booked they told us that they accepted small dogs (we have an 18pd Shih Tzu) and would be happy to accomodate us. We drove up from LA and checked in while holding our dog in our arms. He is very friendly and wags his tail at everyone he meets. The bellman escorted us (including the dog) to our room and recommended a restaurant that was "within a 15 minute walk". We followed his walking directions for over 30 minutes and never found the restaurant he was talking about. Somehow we have successfully walked all around Europe and found our destinations, but not this time. We ended up (add another 30 minutes to walk back to the hotel) very hungry and tired. We went to the restaurant in the hotel where there were many open tables and asked to be seated. They wanted to know if we had a reservation and we said no, but we were staying in the hotel. Our waiter was wonderful and very professional and the food was good. We began to relax and unwind. The next day we went out to sightsee and at one point left the "do not disturb" sign on the door. At 8:40pm when we had just retired after a long day of activities, we receive a phone call from a male front desk manager who tells us that they didn't know we had a dog and we have to change rooms-right now! I said that we had already been in this room one night and we were quite tired and we would not be interested in moving. The man became very upset and actually accused us of trying to "hide the dog" by "holeing up" in our room with our dog via leaving that "do not disturb" sign on the door. I told him that was an inaccurate and unjust statement, but he just kept raising his voice at me. I just hung up on him because I was so tired and shocked at being verbally assaulted by a front desk employee. A few minutes went by and another front desk manager called and explained in a civil tone that they were sorry, but that they had made a mistake, and that we had to be in the "dog area of rooms", and would we be able to move the next morning. We told him that was fine, we would not mind moving the following day. The interaction with that other front desk manager though was completely unacceptable. Ultimately we just checked out that next morning. We were very unimpressed with the entire experience and won't stay there again.

This was our second stay here and we were not disappointed. Last year my wife and I really enjoyed our visit, so this time brought our son along. We had a good discounted rate on a double room with fireplace and balcony in the second building facing the Monterey Coastal Trail. Our room was very quiet and peaceful, tastefully decorated with a fantastic bathroom that had a tub and separate shower stall. The fireplace was very comforting in the evening when temperatures began to drop.

Although Cannery Row is not the most scenic location in the area, it is convenient to everything Monterey has to offer and is just a short drive to Pacific Grove and Carmel. We especially enjoyed early morning walks on the Coastal Trail into Pacific Grove along the shoreline, taking in the ocean views and admiring the homes along the way. We also saw seals and otters on the beach and swimming in the ocean this time.

This has become our favorite hotel in the area and we would not hesitate to stay again or encourage friends to do the same.

We stayed at the Clement on April 3rd for one night with our children. It is a lovely new luxury hotel just feet from the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We loved our room and the professionalism of the Front Desk. We appreciated our upgrade to a partial ocean view room facing the center courtyard. The room had high ceilings, awesome beds and a large bathroom. The shampoo/soap were high caliber too and the towels plush. We had no problems with valet parking and received our car very quickly each time we needed it. Our only negative experience came the next morning with breakfast at C Restaurant (see my specific review of my experience there). We ended up leaving the restaurant and checking out. When I conveyed my experience to the Front Desk upon check out, they too were baffled by the restaurant manager's behavior in refusing to serve us breakfast vs. Easter Brunch although they were allowing it at the table next to us....The Front Desk staff offered to intervene but our breakfast at the hotel restaurant had been ruined by that point so we took their suggestion to go to Awakenings a few blocks away and had a lovely breakfast there. I do hope the Clement management will follow up on my experience at the restaurant so others don't have to be treated the way we were this past Sunday morning. I will very likely return to the Clement but probably never step foot in the restaurant again!

We stayed Sat and Sunday, and left feeling ambivalent about this place. I won't repeat all the positives other reviewers have mentioned, but here is something you should know: Despite all the pretty ocean pictures online, a large part of the hotel is back behind the one you see on the internet, an entirely separate bldg on a separate street. You will NOT see, smell or even hear the ocean from there, in fact our room, way in the back, which the front desk clerk coolly described as "on the recreation trail" was indeed on the bike path (which becomes a drunken pedestrian path late in the evening, but wasn't too bad during our stay) - HOWEVER the lovely view from our room was of a cement parking garage. I could live with that, given the rate we obtained from our Travelzoo package of $189 for Sat and $159 for Sunday, and the fact that we weren't really IN the room very much. The problem with the garage was the constant honking. My husband, who is immune to noise and not ever bothered by it, noticed before me that a half hour never went by without at least one car honking, echoing throughout the garage, and usually more than that. We actually wondered if there was some kind of blind curve within it, and a sign asking people to "toot" since it never ceased, except at 11pm - perhaps the garage closed then? We brought it up with the desk clerk, who replied that he'd NEVER heard that before. Frankly, with the "full house" that they supposedly had which precluded us from moving to a better room, I can't believe no one else complained. I would NEVER pay their standard rates for the smallish size of the room, standard Holiday Inn layout (bathroom when you come in, bed, desk, wall of windows, yawn....) Monterey has many run down hotels, so yes, this is the cleanest, brightest, most modern, newest one in town, and for that reason I will recommend the place, but just be forewarned that there are a LOT of rooms that are no where near the ocean and negotiate a better price!
On the positive side, the valets were wonderful, stored our bikes in a lobby closet and cheerfully and promptly retrieved them for us each morning. We went car-free the entire visit, but our car came quite quickly when we checked out. We left our front wheels on the valet stand, and when we realized it 1/2 block away, two of the valets were sprinting down the street to catch us! We also had a wonderful, funky breakfast waitress, (I forget her name but she has trendy beige glasses) who was real and genuine, something the reservation staff and desk clerks could learn.

The "pool" IS a joke I cannot imagine enjoying doing laps in there. They really should just call it what it is - a fountain!
