“good hotel”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights in October. Rooms have modern decor, nice bathroom, good bed/linens and was clean. I was expecting a little more luxury for the cost but was good enough.

Plan on $20/night for garage parking unless you opt for street parking like we did. Parking is free if you're willing to walk up-hill 5 blocks and park on Laine Street. Not for everyone but it worked for us.

We stayed here having never been to Monterey and so we decided to be in the centre of things in Cannery Row. Whilst I really was not impressed with the area ( way too touristy) the hotel itself was extremely good. We arrived at one pm not expecting to check in but to park and explore but they found us a room immediately . The room was large and extremely we'll appointed . If I was to find any fault it was the lack of a hand held shower but that is so minor in the vast bathroom that we had.
The children loved the lap pool and whirlpool and were made to feel very welcome ( not always the case) .
We had breakfast and whilst sort of pricey the quality was extremely good. Whilst I can't imagine ever being in Monterey again I would recommend the hotel whileheartedly

This hotel is an under the radar type of hotel. It is nice, but not too nice. The main areas and the rooms are somewhat sterile, just a notch above bland even, but they are modern and their clean lines help to appreciate the view of the bay.
It's a good hotel for the price point.
The restaurant is awesome for both breakfast and service. (we only ate breakfast there)
One tiny complaint is that when we checked in we had to leave as our small children were starving and after waiting 10 minutes for our luggage, we left a tip on the bed and went to lunch.
The luggage attendant must not have checked the beds where the $5 still was when we returned as the suitcases, backpack, pram bag and golf clubs were thrown in the small hallway on their sides and upside down. I had to shift them to gain access to the rest of the room.

Perhaps a bellboy having a hissy fit that no-one was there to tip him??? I am truly not sure but I have never, ever had our luggage treated this way and was not impressed. I told the front desk but did not receieve a response from them at all during our 4 day stay.

That experience jaded us somewhat but was not repeated, thank goodness.

All in all it was good and if we were to ever stay in Monterey again we would choose this hotel.

Stayed for one night during a trip through California. Great hotel. I got a bigger room than booked, even though I had already used a comparatively low rate.

Pros:
- Rooms are extremely spacious with nice touches (cozy animal, zen garden, great shower etc.)
- All is very quiet - one can sleep like a baby.
- Hot tub / swimming pool area is small, but nice.

Cons:
- None actually.

Room Tip: Book a room with fireplace and partial sea view - very nice.

The put the meaning to full service. I have never been so pampered. The valet parking is affordable ($1 more than self). Front desk and bell hops were helpful and friendly. The whole place is elegantly decorated. The rooms were huge with ocean or partial ocean views. The bathrooms were equally spacious. Best hotel I have ever stayed at!

My fiance and I traveled to California to celebrate my 30th birthday. I have been wanting to visit the sea otters at the Monterey Bay Aquarium for years but to my dismay, I found out that their exhibit was closed after our flights were already reserved. :( LUCKILY, we randomly chose this hotel and it was the BEST part of our trip. The room was large, very clean, and right outside of our balcony was the bay...where we got to see wild sea otters playing every morning! The staff was INCREDIBLE - hands down, best service during our entire trip! The hotel practically shares a deck with the aquarium, though it is private. We will definitely be staying here again!

Room Tip: Splurge for the partial ocean view upgrade! It is SO worth it.

When we arrived we pulled up to the front of the hotel. Someone was there to open the car door for us. We went Ito reception and the people on the front desk could not have been friendlier. By the time we had checked in the bell boy was waiting with our luggage to take us up to our room. He was very friendly and chatty and spoke to us about our trip and advised us on where to eat as we were only doing a one night stop over here.

The room itself cannot be faulted. It was big, clean and modern. We were two girls travelling together and both had a large double bed. There was a fire in the room to make it more cosy. We had a large balcony with a table and chairs but it was too cold to sit out there! The bath room was very large with a bath and shower cubical. There was a dressing gown and slippers for each of us.

Even after we had been out for dinner and drinks and returned during the early hours of the morning there was someone there to greet us with a friendly smile. Definitely the best hotel we stated at during our whole trip down the coast. A must stay hotel if you are in the area!
