Although this hotel is in the center of Cannery Row and bridges two blocks, it is a great hotel to stay in for a relaxing weekend. Usually, I don't care for the area it's in because it is touristy and has a plethora of t-shirt shops, but this hotel feels cloistered and private; it protects you from what is around it and creates a certain serenity that in more typical in a resort.

Don't get me wrong, the design is urban, maybe a little too much so, with not enough nod to the natural elements of the preserve on which it sits, but it has amazing windows that take advantage of the views of the bay without apology. The restaurant views are great and the food is quite good, actually.

I stayed in a King Room with a fireplace, without much view, but the room was very spacious and had a KILLER bathroom. Service was very good, with maid service being excellent. Room service was prompt and usually very good.

One final note, I left this hotel to attend a conference at the Hyatt Regency Monterey and found that place to be AWFUL. If, by some chance, you are considering a decision between the two, the Intercontinental is worth a real premium over the Hyatt, unless you are a golf nut.

I will certainly be back!

My family and I spent 3 days here in June 2011. We rented 2rooms of which I requested they be adjoining. Theyhonoured the request.Rooms were very clean and no noise from outside. We had 2nd floor near the entrance but not once did we hear any noise. Didnt eat there as we were on the road to Big Sur during the day.
The view of Monterey Bay is fantastic and the close proximity to Cannery row and the aquarium was very convienent.

Stayed at the InterContinental Clement this past weekend and the location was perfect as we attended an outdoor wedding in Pacific Grove. Sebastian and the team at the front desk we very helpful answering questions. The hotel looks out to the bay and there are firepits where you can sit and enjoy the view and watch the otters play in the water. I have stayed in other hotels in Monterey and you can hear the seagulls all night long, the guest rooms at the Clement are very quiet. Can't go wrong staying at this hotel.

We had a lovely big room with a balcony and side sea-view, benefiting from a complimentary upgrade as we are Priority Club Platinum members. Very friendly and helpful staff. The fitness room was very good. We didn't eat in the restaurant as it seemed rather pricey. A major highlight for us was being able to watch sea-otters from the boardwalk outside the hotel and the hotel is virtually next door to the aquarium which is well worth a visit. The one down side was the valet-parking - both expensive and irritating from our (British) point of view, not least as you have to tip every time the valet retrieves your car!

This is a nice hotel and in a very good location right on Cannery Row just a two minute walk to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

We had what we would characterize as an unacceptable situation that needed immediate attention upon arrival. Our complaint was addressed immediately by the front desk and then the manager. We were moved to a new room the next morning and the manager contacted us throughout our stay to make sure that everything was to our liking. Literally, the staff could not have been more helpful, understanding and apologetic.

Our new room was spotless. It was large (with a fireplace) and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was likewise very clean.

Staff suggested several local restaurants, all of which were good. We advised them that we did not want to eat at a chain restaurants but, instead, wanted to eat where the "locals" eat. They made excellent suggestions.

The hotel is located right on the bay. The patio area provides excellent views.

Staff's assistance, despite our initial problem, would make us want to stay there again if we ever traveled to Monterey in the future. This is a nice hotel.

My wife and I decided to spend a weekend in Monterey and after some research we selected the Clement. In general I would say that most things work very well for a guest there. The check-in and valet parking experience was perfect. Car, bags and checkin were handled in a well orchestrated and extremely welcoming manner; the process was completed within 10 minutes. Parking could be a challenge in the congested location of the hotel....so efficient handling of that process really mattered. We were upgraded to a 5th floor ocean front room which was a delight. The hotel is still newish, so the decor, mechanical condition, room design, etc., were modern, clean, fresh....very pleasing. The weather being constantly cool, the fireplace was a nice touch for brief evening use. We had a very nice balcony with great panoramic view of the bay......we had a "mascot" ... a very large seagull who stood on the rail of our balcony for long periods of time.....even if we went on the balcony, as long as we didn't get too close.....the gull remained......watching us. Lots of sea birds.....seals, sea lions or whatever they were, spent low tide periods sunning on rock below during the day......with a clutch of kayakers at a respectable distance from the animals......ogling them. The environment was what we needed on this weekend...it was restful and enjoyable.....great downtime. The staff in this hotel were exceptionally hospitable, welcoming and gracious......and efficient. Concierge desk, as always, very helpful. If I had to find a touch of mediocrity.....it would be in the restaurant.....where breakfast was served. We ate breakfast in the hotel dining room on our first morning. The prices were a bit at the high end.....to be expected in a venue such as this...but the quality of the service and of the food were mediocre.....less than we would have expected.
The service was slow.....and had long gaps when coffee cups were needing to be filled....and no effort made to do so. At least on the day we were there, the eggs, etc., were just not up to par. I suppose I would describe the experience simply as "uninspired and uninspiring"....a mild disappointment. Later the same day I asked the Concierge for a recommendation for a "breakfast place" and she told us "where the locals go"..... an eatery called "Fresh Awakenings" a 5 minutes walk from the hotel.....and THERE was a breakfast place. So for the next two mornings we ate there. All in all.......it would be difficult to find fault with The Clement....I only offer my comments on the breakfast as feedback for the restaurant management, if they are interested in improving that service. The bar, chambermaid service, valet parking, baggage, front desk, Concierge.....the demeanor of the staff were excellent. If we returned to the area......we'd choose the hotel again.

Room Tip: Be an "Ambassador", book a partial ocean view, and be upgraded.

My husband and young son stayed here for three days at the end of a 7-day stay in San Francisco. My son had wanted to see the Monterey Aquarium so we chose this hotel because it is essentially next door to the Aquarium. There are many, many things that are within walking distance including a trail that takes you along the bay for some quiet time, but also restaurants and tourist shops for more activity.

After our stay in a stuffy, business-oriented hotel in San Francisco surrounded by all the hustle and bustle, The Clement was a welcome retreat before heading home. We had a king room + roll away with a partial ocean view. The bathroom was very large (a bonus with three people!) with plenty of open storage to stow our stuff. Very new - very clean. The hotel spans across both sides of Cannery Row and we were actually across the street from the bay but could see it. The room had a fireplace. I really liked that the windows opened and we could here the gulls and get some fresh air.

In addition to the walk-ability factor, another big positive was the gathering areas. There is a quiet deck with firepits and heaters where you can sit and watch the water, have a drink, read a book. Just inside from the deck is a nice area with couches and chairs where you can relax. These areas were GREAT for us because our son naps in the afternoons and it allowed the non-napping parent to go somewhere and not be trapped in the room.

Everyone at the hotel was friendly especially the valets who at times were very busy. The C Bar & Restaurant is in the lobby and has excellent food and service. They were quite accommodating of our little boy. I got some of the best sleep here.

The only negative that I have is that the rooms while insulated from the noise on the street are not insulated from the noise inside the hotel. We must have had a troop of clog dancers staying upstairs. Also, there is a problem with the doors slamming shut. At our hotel in San Francisco, you actually had to pull the door closed which made for a quieter stay. In the end, I think next time, I would ask for a room on the third floor to eliminate some of the noise.

Overall, I was very pleased with our stay at The Clement. It was very relaxing. I was originally torn between this hotel and another but I feel this was definitely the better choice. Upscale but not stiff. The location provides just the right amount of activity and opportunities for quiet. The service and appointments are top notch. Friendly staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the top floor at the end of the corridor to minimize noise for inside the hotel
