What a treat. The food, location and decor of the restaurant were superb every dish that we tried was memorable, we particularly loved the corn on the cob as an appetizer. The tres Leche dessert and Alfajores were amazing.
The view of the ocean was breathtaking.

Well, it had to happen, because nobody's perfect and nothing lasts forever.

I've written several glowing reviews about La Costanera. This was my 7th visit in 10 months, and the previous 6 were all outstanding. Not this one.

During the previous 6 visits, the general manager, Al Gonzalez, was always there, but on this one he was not, and it was the first time I was disappointed. Coincidence? I don't think so...

When I made the reservation, I told the restaurant it was our wedding anniversary and I wanted one of the front-row tables with the great view. When we arrived, they told me those tables were on a first-come-first-serve basis, but they promised us (twice) that they could give us a front-row table in 10-15 minutes. Then they sent us to the bar with a couple of free drinks.

About 20 minutes later, another person came to tell us no front-row table would be available for at least an hour. OK, how is that possible? Here's how: there really was a table available, but one of the hostesses gave it to another patron, either by accident or intentionally. Once someone else was sitting there, they couldn't tell them to get up and sit elsewhere, so we ended up losing the table we wanted.

We begrudgingly accepted a regular table, which wasn't even in Yvonne's (our favorite server there or anywhere) section (another thing I had requested). Fortunately, Yvonne agreed to serve us even though we weren't in her section.

Well, Yvonne single-handedly saved the evening with her outstanding service and wonderful attitude. She shared stories, made food recommendations, and brought us a couple of complimentary dishes. This place is lucky to have her. And we were lucky too, because, as it turns out, Tuesday is her night off; fortunately for us, she was called in to help because they were very busy - on a Tuesday night!

The fumble with the table notwithstanding, this place is amazing (at least when Al and Yvonne are around). The view from any table (inside or outside) is amazing, and the beach is only a few steps away.

They serve many original and unusual drinks, but the Pisco Sour is our favorite there, and one of our Top 3 favorite drinks anywhere. We've had Pisco Sour in several places, but nowhere else is it as good as here.

We always order our food family style, sharing many appetizers and a couple of entrees. Everything is very tasty, especially the Cebiche Sampler (with the Cebiche Pescado being my favorite of the three), the Anticucho de Pollo, the Calamari Relleno, and the Arroz Chaufa. But the best-tasting dish is the Langostino Crocantes, giant prawns served with a fantastic sauce.

Every time we're there we are bombarded by wave after wave of great tastes, and we always love it, as does everyone who comes with us. They even have some very nice desserts, like the panna cotta, the chocolate lava cake, the quinoa flan, and the churros; nothing too unusual here, but all are very tasty.

Having said all that, the food is pretty expensive, and in the winter there is no chance to catch the sunset because they open at 5:30pm, and the sun has already gone down. And, as I said in the beginning, their hostess service is not very consistent. But overall it is still one of our Top 3 restaurants in the Bay Area.

This is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean so you may be competing for parking with surfers. The food was just OK compared to other Peruvian restaurants I have tried in the Bay Area. The service was understaffed. Slow on the appetizers in the bar because our dish was served to another table. I would not order another pisco sour here as it tasted more like a cheap margarita with pisco instead of tequila. We were not offered a chance to order more wine before our entrée course was served. I do not blame the waitperson as they had to cover too many tables. The bus staff wanted to pick up plates even when we had food on them and the runners did not bring serving spoons as requested. Go for the view; it is glorious.

Fabulous place, fabulous food, worth the drive! This is very high class food in an incredibly beautiful place, looking out over the ocean. You don't want to take your mother here if she has hearing issues, but your date - oh yes!

An absolutely gorgeous building on an even more impressive site overlooking the beach and surf of Montara CA. amazing ground floor, glass protected bar/entertainment spot on the beach, fun, lovely inside bar behind it (still with ocean view) and an incredible dining room above, again with that great view. The Peruvian menu is huge, from several ceviches, small plates, large plates, etc. We were a group of 6 and focused mainly on small plates (had 15 of them :). Delicious, every one. And killer Pisco Sours to boot! 30 minutes south of San Francisco, 10 minutes north of Half Moon Bay. What are you waiting for?
