“Helpful but quirky”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2014

We stayed here to attend the Rose Parade and I can recommend this hotel for that purpose. The shuttle took us to the Metro station which was quite easy to navigate. The metro stop closest to our grandstand was only one stop away and the walk was not bad.
The hotel also did not have a long (if any) minimum stay like the ones in Pasadena do, nor did their rates appear to be quite so jacked up. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the rooms were quite attractive. The pool area was nice though we did not use it. The restaurant was fine.
The quirky part was the rooms. Though beautifully designed, there were some practicality issues. We had two rooms. One was fairly standard though it did not have a bathtub and I'm not sure I was aware of that when I booked it. For us, that was fine but might be an issue if you had small children.
The other room was a King Suite with a jetted tub. Very impressive when you first walk in! As we tried to use the bathroom, though, there were some practical issues. The tub is open to the living/sleeping area. There is a curtain you can pull for privacy. There was also no door to the bathroom. Again, just a curtain for privacy. Even with the curtains pulled, however, every sound in the bathroom can be heard throughout the room.
The bathtub itself was relaxing and deep. Perhaps a bit too deep. I am short and it took quite an effort to climb in and out. In fact, I earned a few bruises trying. And, while at first we thought there might not be a shower, there was. It was in the ceiling over the tub. Once again, very impressive to look at but when we turned it on, water went everywhere! The nozzles were not directed straight down and that whole side of the bathroom was soaked with puddles on the floor. After the climb into the tub, it was possible to shower but I felt very sorry for housekeeping though I tried to mop up what I could.
There was a HUGE flat screen TV in the room that you could watch from the tub/shower---as long as you were willing to keep that curtain open and yourself exposed. There were also two nice sitting areas with couches and a desk and the view of the mountains was spectacular.
Parking was adequate and the area was fine.
A nice hotel but I wouldn't spring for the King Suite again.

The staff was very friendly on a very busy weekend for them with lots of college football fans in town. Breakfast staff was fantastic, omelettes made to order, crisp bacon, and all of the other breakfast goodies. I would stay again for sure.

Suprisingly high end feeling hotel in Monrovia/Arcadia!

Great location. If you need to be relatively close to Pasadena, but do not want to pay higher prices and worry abour parking, this is a great option. It is very convenient to the 210 and not far from the 605 interchange.

The Doubletree has a great high end feel. Best example, the pool deck is right next to a parking lot and a culvert, but due to very good landscaping and a great fire pit, you feel more like you are at a secluded resort.

The staff were helpful and attentive.

We will stay here again.

Room Tip: Hotel has supposedly higher end rooms (rain fall shower room, larger knig), we have tried these and...

The staff was very helpful from directions, where to eat, and service. The restaurant was excellent and service very good. The room was clean and well kept. The only change I would make is get rid of the sliding door in the bathrooms. They are fine if you stay alone, but the noise level from them at night is a problem.

The layout of the room was the worst I've seen in the US. It appears they tried to make this a European style room but failed miserably....starting with having the closet AND drawers INSIDE the bathroom! Also you couldn't even hang a woman's pair of pants on a pant hanger because there was not enough height....let alone hang a mans pair. Then there was the SLIDING door to the bath that was noisy and wasn't even close to a tight fit, so noise was not contained in the bathroom. I have never seen this...even in Europe. Also no tub... just a dark tile shower that did not appear all that clean. Voices from adjacent rooms could be heard. Furnishings were tacky. I could go on but in summary this was the worst room I have ever stayed in. Some Motel 6s have better rooms.

Weather was warm and people cold during check-in. No smile, no cookie, and no merry chrismas. Since this is the first time we stay in this hotel, after check-in we (two adults and two young kids) went to the other side of the lobby with luggages and found there was no elevator. Then we had to go back to the lobby. The guy told me we should go this side. I wish I would have known earlier. You should tell me right after check-in; or you should tell me right after you see we were going to the wrong side!

Arrived Christmas Eve and checked out the day after Christmas. Expected the "second" team and a so-so hospitality attitude. However, staff was helpful and welcoming. The room was comfortable and clean. The quality of the breakfast buffet and attitude of the waitstaff were a cut above the usual.
