We called Doralee to ask about having a party for Mom in the garden area behind the Hotel for 20 guests including kids. She was very helpful and we set up the Date for Saturday the 7th which is Mom's Birthday. The garden was perfect for our crew. The kids explored the "Underground" rooms at the lower level of the hotel and looked for ghosts. We had ordered many of the meals in advance, which helped out a lot since Doralee was serving all by herself. Each set of meals was brought down two long flights of stairs and every bussed dish was carried back up those flights. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because Doralee needs to have at least one more server helping her to expedite food handling.
Speaking of food. Fantastic! Mom had the Salmon Pesto salad and many of us had steak sandwiches or fancy burgers. All were done to perfection and the presentations were superb! The setting is wonderful for exploring and just relaxing by the pool.
We plan to come back often. Mom already has a list of friends she wants to bring for lunch, and I want to stay overnight in one of the newly remodeled rooms and hang out in the bar with a good glass of wine with my sweetheart!
I highly recommend this establishment.

This place is awesome! Great staff, great food, the new owners are more than happy to show off the property and the new renovations that "Hotel Impossible" completed a while back. Yeah, the floors creek when you walk across them; yeah, the bar can be a little loud at night, but what are you staying for if you are not in search of this type of rustic charm? We'll be back, and hope to see George (the ghost of the original owner) next time!

All I can say is I will be a repeat guest! Very cute little town, very friendly people. Felt at home and welcome by all hotel staff and everyone seen in passing on the street. Cute hotel with a warm old town feel. I am used to staying in Disney Resort Hotels so I wasn't sure of what to expect. We arrived and were greeted with smiles, taken care of as though we were VIP. The hotel manager was wonderful! We were only in town for a couple days to visit the caverns but went home having a crazy adventure in the nearby caves, and experienced something we believe to have been paranormal.

Room Tip: Rm 1 - poolside, private, pretty view

In the beautiful California Sierra Nevada Foothills of Calavares County sits this historic charming hotel that was founded in 1851 due to the famous gold rush in 1847-the birth of Molkelumne Hill town. This hotel is filled with history, friendly spirits, excellent staff, wonderful chef, and warm charm of an old building. A wonderful place for a getaway from city noise and electronics (wi-if is available) unless you join the hotel's local bar gatherings on the weekend. The old walls are thin so the hotel offers ear plugs for light sleepers. We had no problem sleeping. Nice ambiance for a wedding.

Room Tip: For weekend travelers, early sleepers should select a room not above the bar area. Some rooms share...

I was taken here for my birthday and really loved the room. It was above the bar downstairs but I didn't mind the noise since I'm a night owl. There is a lovely fireplace which was wonderful with the log they provided and the bed was very comfortable. Wonderful antique furniture and balcony access only made it better. I had the prime rib in the restaurant which was delicious. They were very friendly, allowing us to tour through the hotel and see all of the secret nooks and crannies. The pool looked nice but it was November so I didn't use it. All in all, I recommend this place for the charm and comfort. I was made aware that this was featured on the Travel Channel and also that it's supposed to be haunted. For me, none of that matters. It's just a great place in Gold Country! Be sure to visit the nearby graveyard.

Room Tip: Avoid the room over the bar if you like it quiet.

We stayed midweek at the Leger in room #2. Our check-in was seamless as our hostess was prompt, courteous and showed us up to our room. Wow, that has not happed in quite some time.
We ate at Franks café for 2 meals. (open 7am till 3pm)
Everything in our room was in good order. We were a bit taken back that the entrance to the balcony was through our window, but after a few duck and step crossings it became a non-issue.
The only snag during our stay was that the hotel restaurant did not open on Thursday. We received a phone call from our hostess informing us of this situation and were appreciative for the 'heads up' so we could make other arrangements.
The owner was gracious enough to drive in from the bay area to open the bar.
Would we return? Yes.
Jackson, Sutter Creek and San Andreas are just a few minutes away. This would be a great stay during the Frog Jumping Contest.

Room Tip: A room in the front means you will hear the bar and restaurant patrons. We loved the creaking floor...
