I should have guessed when there was no one there for lunch, that was a sign, but I thought it was just slow. Ordered an omlette. How badly could you screw this up? Well, they did. VERY bland, no flavor, spices or anything. My friend had the fish and chips. Pretty simple right? Well, they still couldn't add any flavor to that dish either. Diners are supposed to offer good food, but this place has to be the worst I've ever had. Avoid this place like the plague.

I anjoyed a nice dinner at the Black Bear Diner in Modesto, CA. The fish tacos are delicious and reasonably priced. My husband enjoyed the tri-tip which was perfectly prepared. However the huckleberry ice cream is really blue berry. The waitress checked the ingredients. (Huckleberry concentrate was mentioned -probably for coloring).

my daughter and i decided to stop at the black bear diner since the parking lot always seems full. The restaurant is on our way to our vacation home and we stopped in at dinner time a couple of weeks ago. we both were very happy to find that breakfast was being served so we enjoyed breakfast at dinnertime. We also ate dessert first since we ordered a blackberry bear claw to share while we waited for our meals. Everything was fine and the value was good.

It is a well-decorated diner with a decent menu, but it disappointed.

My server was fine but from my seat I could see the manager (maybe owner) stomping back and forth in a terrible mood about everything, or maybe he is just alwasy grumpy. The wait staff seemed to be carrying on loud conversations about everything, including who was getting a break other mundane things, that didn't need to go on in front of customers because a diner doesn't need a side show.
But, the real killer was the food. This is a comfort food place, but nothing tasted right. The fries tasted freezer burnt, the chili burger had a bad taste. I would have been happier with fast food from around the corner, and probably had a better atmosphere

This place has a nice atmosphere , the country diner type experience , but the selection I made for lunch was not one of the best. I am certain a breakfast option would have far exceeded the Turkey and Avocado Club Sandwich I had. The avocado amounted to the smallest sliver you barely knew it was there. I understand that avocado is an expensive commodity , but this was downright ridiculous. The potato sale was actually soupy and I was quite repelled by that. Potato Salad should be firm and held together well with the right amount of mayo ( not swimming in it ) , but I assure this was not the case. The fresh squeezed OJ was borderline hot, they do not chill the juice after squeezing it. On the plus side , the waitress was efficient and friendly and got things going quickly. She was checking on me often and this was during a busy time. Unless , I get an idea that the breakfast would be a lot better of an experience than the lunch option I chose, I doubt I will return here. I initially wanted to spend enough to get a 1000 point Delta Air Miles bonus , but I think I'll skip that plan. I will reiterate , however, very nice people employed around the place , as far as the staff was concerned.
