“The most consistent restaurant in Modesto”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

Surla's has been the most consistent restaurant we have had in Modesto for a while. The food is excellent and so is the service. John Surla changes his menu up every so often...Love his flair to his food! The salads are so fresh and presented so well. Surla's always has something for everyone...The parking is good, the bar is excellent...A great place to dine for lunch and dinner!

“The food was a big disappointment and the service was fine”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2013

Looks good driving up and the service is fine- attentive without being hovering, efficient. The food was over-rated. They have small, well rounded menu. I only had a main course, and glad i limited my meal to that. Bread came the table after i ordered. It looked good and was described as Hawaiian roll style bread. With bright eyes, put a piece in my mouth and it was cold. Cold like out of a refrigerator cold - no way to serve bread. I ordered the chicken piccata- it was like no chicken piccata I've ever eaten. It was smothered with a heavy cream sauce (not disclosed on the menu) with very light capers. This could have been shared when I asked about the soup and it had cream, and I disclosed I couldn't have cream Chicken was overcooked, the potatoes undercooked and something green that was ok cooked. Once I saw the cream sauce, i should have sent it back, but i didn't. I'm paying the price with an upset stomach. there are better options. I'm going back to Skewers.

“A beautiful restaurant to have a business lunch.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013 via mobile

Sometimes I forget that there is this elegant restaurant tucked away on 12th, located a way from most of the other fine restaurants in Modesto, Surla is really worth the trip. They have lots of parking, the lunch menu is thoughtfully put together, and their service is good.. They need to put LaMarca back on their wine list.

“Perfect”

Dinner last night for the first time and will be going back again. Food was fresh, salmon and ahi were great. The waiter was a true pleasure along with great wine selection which the waiter helped us select. Price was more than fair...

“Culinary Adventure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2012

Well, we loved Hazel's and still miss her eclectic style, but Surla is a worthy replacement. It has it's own personality. I love the way the restaurant flows. It is inviting and personal, and the food is dynamic Asian-fusion style. Everything taste so fresh.
