Had a great experience staying at this beautiful spa/hotel. My tablet went missing and later found with the help of the staff. The breakfast was good, but repetitious, Good breakfast! The rooms were super clean. The pool was very nice. Easy access to stores and restaurants. I'm ready to go back!

This Ayres is located near Foothill Ranch and Rancho Santa Margarita, so it's not in the heart of South County, but it's a 10min drive to all the action.

The hotel is split between 2 buildings, so do be sure to note whether you are staying at the Ayres Suites or Spa (there is not a universal check-in desk). The lobby is nice, clean, and the staff is professional. The Spa building centers around a pleasant courtyard, with the included breakfast served adjacent to the lobby.

The rooms require a key card to run lights and, apparently, the mini fridge, so ask for an extra to keep items cold while you're out (this is not a great design feature!) or you may come back to a smoosh of ice cream in the freezer as well (there is an actual upper freezer, not the useless "freezer" area like most mini fridges have).

Rooms near the courtyard may get noise from breakfast goers, but rooms at the corners of the hotel are very quiet. The rooms are suite style, with a half wall separating the living area (complete with a mini fridge and microwave) from the sleeping area. The beds are comfortable, although not exceedingly so (they tout their dream sleeper mattresses) and even the folded blankets at the foot of the beds seem extremely clean. The bathrooms aren't oversized, but they are also exceptionally clean.

Wifi is free and functions well. TVs have a decent selection of stations.

The pool is moderately heated, although it is fairly small and is located at the front corner of the property by the Suites building.

Breakfast is a standard buffet offering complete with the DIY waffle station in an attractive room. The restaurant on-site is run by the nearby Piccolino Ristorante (which is quite good), and there are several other dining choices (and a market) in the adjacent shopping center.

Overall, this is a nice hotel that does much right for a decent price a short drive away from the places you'll want to go in South OC. Not a dream getaway, but if you need a business traveler-friendly, quiet, efficient stay, it's great.

My stay was exceptional. I made a last minute, whirl wind trip to attend a memorial. Ayers gave me the opportunity to stay a few extra days to visit old friends. The staff was friendly, always helpful and pleasant. A special "thank you" to Rachel! You were my Angel and helped me have the chance to spend more time with dear friends : )

Around 3:00 am I awoke to a flashing light that had a strobe effect glaring directly in my face. I turned on the ceiling light and realized it was coming from what I think was a fire alarm light. There was no noise just a very strong flashing light. It was located on the wall at the foot of the bed and therefore shone directly in my face. I finall got a restaurant paper menu and slid it between the wall and the plastic "switchplate" and let the menu flop over the light. I went back to bed. There was no emergency.

Dear Coleen B,

Thank you so much for your candid review. We sincerely apologize for the glitching fire alarm as we can understand how disruptive that must have been to your sleep. We do everything we can to ensure a comfortable stay for our guests and would be more than happy to investigate the issue should we be notified of the problem. Our maintenance team has been notified and is checking the alarms. Again, I sincerely apologize for the flashing light disrupting your sleep and hope you will still consider staying with us in the future.

Sincerely,

Didi Shields

Stayed here on a recent trip with family. The hotel is very well maintained and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel staff does a a amazing job of making you feel welcome and the complimentary breakfast is awesome! Would def stay here again. We were only 30 minutes to Disneyland and 20 from Laguna beach. Great central location

Clean, comfortable, convenient. EXCELLENT complimentary breakfast. The restaurant was rather disappointing for dinner.... and overpriced. An otherwise great stay. Wish we had a room with a better view, will know better next time!

This hotel has a nice main floor and breakfast. The rooms themselves were just so-so. Frankly, they were clean, but nothing fantastic. The room air was typical hotel-dry-sterile. Nothing above 3 star (out of 5). I would have been satisfied, but we were not provided an option in the suites (so I can't comment there) and the price for the actual rooms was very high for the value.

Service at the front desk was above average. Room maid service was only adequate. On Sunday I don't believe the room was even made up after we got a late start. I'm not looking for 5 star service at a 3 star hotel, but all the same, if you pay a high rate, you expect a little attention beyond check-in. I might also note that I left a tip for the maid on the first day and received standard service. Usually, when we do that we get a little extra attention, e.g., extra towels etc. Perhaps they have rules against favoring one room over another, but that is hardly industry standard.

In all, my only real gripe was the price. I didn't think it was deserving of such a high rate on the hotel side. The location is solid, being next to the freeway and on a major road. It was quiet. There were several lounging areas. The pool was well separated from the hotel, so the kids never got wet as they didn't want to make the trek. There was a lot of parking lot to traverse to get to main office.

I would likely stay there again because of the location, but I would be looking for a serious break on price. Place is safe.

Room Tip: Make a deal. Don't overpay for this facility.
