Aloft San Francisco Airport
Ranked #5 of 7 Hotels in Millbrae
Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

Overall, this hotel is what you expect from an Aloft. Two things that were not so enjoyable:
1) $20/night parking fee
2) Very loud AC unit that could not be left on during the night
I really liked the carpet in the room and the staff was very friendly.

First impressions are everything...she made it perfect.

I was on back to back business trips, just returned from Dubai, hadn't slept a wink in 36 hours. Although computer was down and delayed check-in, she engaged in great conversation and helped me pick out a meal even though it was a few minutes past her shift and 2:00am!

Just what I needed...a beautiful, hassle free experience.

The rest was excellent as to be expected with SPG. Rarely do people realize the true difference maker is having a solid person in a customer relations position...Erin is the girl!

Easy shuttle from airport to hotel. Accommodations are clean, contemporary and welcoming.
Breakfast bar has price selections. Lobby/lounge/bar area is comfortable. Recommend printing
off $10 coupon for food if planning to buy a bar drink--nice perk

Room Tip: Hotel is quiet

This Starwood brand advertises itself as a "vision of W hotels," their more expensive, full service sibling. It has the hip factor of W but does away with a full service dining room and bellhops etc. There is good causal food (sandwiches and salads) at their self-serve lobby bistro, but also a full service stylish bar in the lobby for wannabe minglers. The rooms are spacious and have all the essentials including a big flat screen TV, fridge, coffee maker, AND complimentary wifi for all guests. The attractive pricing makes this an ideal stop if one arrives at SFO late or has an early morning flight. Why pay top dollar for downtown when you can enjoy a stylish spot minutes from SFO via complimentary shuttle.

We chose the Aloft hotel for our last night to be near SFO. We also chose it because we like new or newly remodeled hotels. Help and information at the front desk was excellent. If you like efficiency, a clean room, a clean bathroom, a comfortable bed, a quiet hotel, it's tops. I say "not for everyone" because there's no restaurant and minimal staff at hand in the lobby area. So if you like to eat at your hotel and like or need lots of help with baggage and stuff this Aloft hotel is not for you. It's been remodeled in a retro mid-century style and that may also influence your decision to choose it (we loved the style). Like the other hotels in the area you pay for parking but getting in and out is easy if, for example, you check in then want to go out for dinner. You get a ticket with a barcode good for the length of your stay then at the in and out gates there's a barcode reader that opens the gate. Quick and efficient. Will definitely stay there again if we need to be near SFO. Thanks Aloft, a winner in my book.

The front desk staff was very friendly during checkin. The room was new and one of the cleanest rooms I've stayed in recently. No random hairs in the bathroom, big fluffy towels, extremely comfortable bed. Free wifi and a decent gym makes it a good choice when needing an airport hotel. Limited food options, but can walk across the parking lot to the Westin restaurant which was recently remodeled.

Stayed there on business for 2 nights. Mentioned in my earlier reviews that I am not fan of airport hotels, but the price was a bit better, hotel is new, concept is cool, so I gave it a try. Some hits, some misses...
Hits: close to airport, decent value, bright colors, cheerful service, good looking lounge and rooms.
Misses: horrible heating/ air conditioning system. Needed heat for cold night, thermostat was not working properly, so heat simply shut off at night; called engineer next morning. He was helpful and fixed the problem. Except I wished I slept in cold quiet room when in the room with noisy heating unit that goes on and off with very unpleasant sound. So much for good night sleep!
Parking for $20 a night, not even disclosed properly, reduces the value appeal.
Lack of hot breakfast is simply not good or convenient when you have early conference call.
Won't stay there again. As SPG Gold Member, I will continue staying in other SPG Properties in Bay Area. It is really between 2 and 3 rating in my book.

Thank you for giving us a try even though you don't prefer airport hotels. We appreciate your review and are glad you liked the Aloft style. We are working on a solution for the noise that the AC unit is making. If you choose to come back, please ask the front desk about our hot breakfast sandwich options that are available. Thanks again for writing a review!
