“Too loud, need more showers at the St. Bernard”
Reviewed September 18, 2009

This place has a country, rustic atmosphere that is kind of cozy. All the rooms are upstairs, above the restaurant and bar which was closed to the public since we were there during the week. One thing I liked about this place was that the inn keepers were willing to serve dinner and drinks to guests even though the restaurant was closed to the public. The breakfast they make is also very good. The problem is, the floors are very squeaky and the walls are super thin and I could here every step and spoken word from the other guests. This kept me up each night. I also remembered why I don't like sharing bathrooms with other guest. There are no private bathrooms here, only two shared bathrooms and only one with a shower. It was very inconvenient to wait for bathrooms, especially for the shower. And when I finally got in the shower, it was filled with hair. Yuck! This place isn't for me but I could see how some people wouldn't mind it. There are better lodging choices for the same price down the road in Chester.

The owners/managers of this place have to be the rudest people we have ever met. Most folks in this quiet mountain area are extremely friendly but not at St. Bernard. Food was so-so and overpriced for being frozen

Spent a wonderful, relaxing weekend at the St Bernard Lodge. Our hosts, Jim and Sharon, were friendly and welcoming, the lodge was clean and tidy, the food was incredible. We're already planning a return trip.

We stay at a lot of b and b's and on this latest circuit The st. bernard was our last stop. very unfriendly, relatives living there, children running around. super thin walls. people there actually insulted my wife. you would be better of sleeping in the bushes on the side of the road.

My hubby and I just wanted to "get out of Dodge" for the weekend, and not have it cost us a fortune. We live in Medford, OR, so it was about 4 hrs. away to Lassen Nat. Park. I looked up accomodations in the area and the B&B sounded lovely and was cheaper than motels we have stayed in on other trips. The owners were very helpful with directions to the park and things to see like the Lava Caves along the highway. We thoroughly enjoyed our "overnighter" with a delicious dinner, a game of pool and a couple drinks in the lovely/old-time bar, and a wonderful breakfast (included in the price) the next morning. I would recommend this place to my friends and family.

We wanted to escape to Lassen Volcanic National Park for thanksgiving and we chose to stay in the St. Bernard Lodge after looking on the web what was out there.
The choice was an excellent one, as the lodging experience was great and very relaxing. The owners have a careful attention to detail and accommodate you in every possible way. They provided us with lunch sandwiches, tips on where to go in the park and suggested we'd enjoy the hot tub after a nice dinner.
The lodge is self contained which is great because there isnt anything to do past 8pm in Chester, and it allows you to play pool, darts, enjoy a couple drinks and rest in preparation for the next day's efforts.
The rooms are clean and comfy. The food is pretty good too, the best we experienced in the area. The included breakfasts are huge and tasty.
While this is by no mean a luxury resort, it does give a great mountain and comfy feel to the Lassen experience and we thought the value for money was good compared to some of our experiences in Napa and Yosemite.
