We booked a room at the St. Bernard Lodge because of the proximity to Lassen National Park. The property is really nice and the place is decorated nicely with antiques with a warm welcoming feeling. We checked in during happy hour and were offered an appetizer and a glass of wine in the bar area of the the resort. We shot a game of pool and visited with the in keepers, Jim and Sharon. Not only are they the owners, but they are the chefs and servers of their bar and restaurant. They offer you your privacy or are willing to offer up conversation and/or their knowledge of the area. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The sheets on the bed were as nice as any 5 star resort! When we got up, we ordered off of a full menu and Jim cooked it up sending us off for our day of hiking. The food was excellent and plentiful and upon request, they will even pack you a sack lunch! They really go the extra mile to make your stay NICE. The room rate was fair and I would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone who wants to stay more than a day to explore beautiful Lassen National Park!

I stayed in the lodge over-night this week. The lodge is beautifully situated but try as I might I could not find a St. Bernard dog anywhere!! The owners were not overly friendly, limiting their conversations to single syllables answers, but the Tavern was a welcome sight after a long drive. In future I will probably drive the extra 10 miles and stay in Chester.

we spent 2 nights in Sep 11 while visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park. The property is lovely. There are more than 5 and less than 8 rooms. Shared bathrooms (one with tub, the other with shower) but for the length of our stay we never had to wait. Breakfast (included in the price) was great!!! several menus to choose among. Dinner is by reservation but when we got there they were very kind and fed us! Both host and hostess are very nice and helpful!!

We stayed in a couple of places in Chester including the Best Western, which is always a wonderful place to stay; however, nothing could beat the restful atmosphere of the St. Bernard Lodge. The plus for me was the location. The 10 miles from town was perfect. Just off Highway 36 made it was easy to get to. Waking in the morning to the smell of sizzling bacon and fresh coffee was wonderful. The sound of the creek, the ducks preening on the pond all added to the relaxing atmosphere. Of course, being away from the lights of the town, allowed us to sit outside towards the back of the lodge and enjoy counting the number of shooting stars. Just missed the big show of thunder and lightening by one day; that would have been spectacular to watch from the cozy little room. Sharing the bathroom was not problem. One night I even got to soak in the old timey tub. I definitely would stay again at the St. Bernard. Thanks for providing such a friendly and cozy place to stay. BTW the breakfast, which was free, was DELICIOUS!

Room Tip: If you are looking for real quiet, I would suggest getting a room toward the back of the lodge.

Jim and Sharon (the innkeepers) are the sweetest people and were amazingly helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast was delicious and ample.

I have only one caveat: The lodge is literally a few feet from California State Route 36. If you are a light sleeper, make sure to get a room on the side of the inn away from the road!

Room Tip: Book a room on the side of the inn away from the road.

We stayed at the lodge after a trip to Lassen Volcanic Park during our three week trip through California. If you are accustomed to luxury hotels, don't go there, because you won't get an en-suite bathroom, TV or air conditioning and you might even find some dust on the curtains. But what you get is a quaint and cozy little gem in the quiet and relaxing middle of nature nowhere. We stayed in the beautiful Evergreen room towards the back of the house which allowed for a great night's sleep in a very comfortable bed. The two shared bathrooms were spotlessly clean. The included breakfast was ordered from the menu and it was delicious and so much that we couldn't eat it all up. We also stayed in for dinner which was amazing home-cooked style food. Besides, the waitress was most charming and very nice to talk to.

The hostess is very friendly and the room is decorated to chime with the rustic atmosphere. The greatest thing is the freshly made breakfast -- free! It is definitely a charming place to stay at if you are visiting Lassen national park!
