Great food selection for dinner. Perfect for after the long hikes in Yosemite. Breakfast was great too.

We love that they try to grow as much as possible on site and try to do the rest organic. We love it!

This restaurant is located on the grounds of the yosemite bug resort and besides the tourist who are staying here it also attracts nearby locals. There is no set menu for this place it changes on a daily basis. Prices are pretty reasonable here considering how far a drive you have to make to get to other places to eat. Sometimes, i just grab dessert here after coming back from a long day in the park or a beer

…or you’ll miss a great dining experience.

A friend of mine introduced me to The Bug, and gave me a little background: the establishment actually raises much of the produce they use in some nearby gardens, resulting in insanely low field-to-fork times, and their other ingredients are sourced with comparable attention to freshness and quality.

Both of us had the trout with cooked greens and barley pilaf. I opted for the fresh green salad, while my friend tied the soup of the day—curried bean, if memory serves, and he raved about it. Everything was fresh, top-quality, and perfectly cooked. Portions were adequate, without being overwhelming.

A couple of caveats: The Bug’s online menu (http://www.yosemitebug.com/cafe.html) gives you fair warning that you won’t see all the menu items on any one visit—this is the flip side of cooking what’s best and freshest that particular day. And the “you pays your money, you takes your chances” attitude carries over to some areas where it’s not necessary—the choices of 3 salad dressings had some that were awfully similar (ranch and Caesar—no Thousand Island, say) and the interesting collection of available beers was lacking a light beer—leading my companion to go with iced tea instead. (IMO, he would have been better off ignoring the calories and joining me with the local, richly-flavored Bootjack Blonde…) Finally, first time you go, suggest doing so in daylight—the last leg of the trip is on a very winding mountain side road, and there are other buildings in the complex, so the café doesn’t stand out.

But the quibbles are really small, when stacked against the great, fresh food and pleasant rustic environment—very much looking forward to my next visit to The Bug.

The food here is amazing, really fresh and local produce and a good selection each day. The cakes and pies are also excellent! It is very casual, you go up and order and take your plates back after but we liked the informal atmosphere after a long day exploring the parks. For the price, the food is outstanding. The staff are also friendly and helpful and there is a good, cosy atmosphere in the dining room.
