“Great, sincere, cheap hostel/hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013 via mobile

Although a bit outdated furnishings in the room, it was all clean and the beds made sure we had a good night's rest. The staff members were very sincere. Especially the kitchen staff, who by the way cook excellent dinners that are not your standard American greasy salty dinners, which sometimes seems hard to get.

We opted for the private room/bath option. We paid just shy of $100 (weekday after labor day). We were not expecting much from the outside, but just needed a place to stay and didn't want to spend $250+ for a night. When we walked in we were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and amazingly decorated. We had supper at the restaurant, it was good, and it was nice not to have to go out again to find food that night. From the other's reviews, it almost seems like your experience depends on what type of room/tent you choose. It was a little funny how they pushed water conservation, yet the shower head wasn't even a low flow. Would stay again for sure.

stayed in the barn studio
yosemite - over one hours drive away
bug - yes
rustic - mouse feces, flies, arrived in the evening, cafe about to close, $10 for a sandwich, no where to buy food
resort - actually a hostel
okay for students, not for a family, overpriced and poor facilities. next time i will stay in midpines itself

Room Tip: stay in midpines

This is my second time staying here and it is a great deal. There are many types of sleeping quarters to choose from. We chose a tent cabin that sleeps 4. We had comfortable beds, plenty of linens and blankets, electricity and even towels were included. The only downside of the tent cabin was that it was hot outside and took quite a while in the evening before it cooled down inside. The staff are very friendly and we loved the atmosphere. A lot of international travelers and people of all ages, it made for great conversations! The food is incredible if you eat in the lodge. The meals average about $8 for breakfast, $10 for lunch and $15 for dinner. They have amazing desserts as well. The hostel also has a spa which is priced very nicely. Our daughter had a massage and loved it. The shower areas are clean and they also have washer and dryers if you need to do laundry. The hostel is about 20 minutes from the entrance to Yosemite (if there is not traffic). I would recommend this location to families, couples, solo travelers, and family get togethers.

Room Tip: Do not stay in the "Yosemite" tent cabins. They are right next to the storage area where...

Stayed here in wintertime. The bathroom facilities were utterly disgusting and you couldn't pay me to shower in there. Considering the obsession with water conservation in that regard, was surprised they had a hot tub and baths? Did not use either.
Main lodge common area and food was fine. Wifi basically didn't work at all (in case anyone wants to use it there).
One night was more than enough, would never go back. And no, I wasn't expecting a 5 star hotel in the first place.
I agreed with carrie_barca's review

It looked like there were mixed reviews about this place, but as soon as we saw the pictures, we knew we had to go and see for ourselves. A fair drive out of the National Park we arrived at Yosemite Bug checked in early afternoon and retreated to our room. We were in the Bodie building staying in a 4 x bed mixed dorm in incredibly comfortable beds. Our room was small yet comfortable, there were also lockers for valuables. We spent the afternoon sitting at the top of the outside staircase drinking Modelos and staring into the trees...

The on-site restaurant was situated in an alpine-style log cabin and provided us with some of the best food we had eaten in our month away. Healthy, mouth-watering tasty grub, exactly what you need after a day hiking in the park. Needless to say, we had to give our compliments directly to the chef. Board games and a dart board kept us entertained (with a bottle or two of wine) until the memory foam mattress called again.

The BEST thing about Yosemite Bug (hands down), is the spa. Nestled in the trees, with a huge wooden veranda dotted with the odd sun-lounger is the $10 a day spa which included a huge hot tub, sauna, yoga room, with the option of having a massage or a herbal soak in one of their roll top bathtubs. This place was HEAVEN! We sacked off a day of hiking for a well deserved day of nothingness and total relaxation and it was well worth it!

My family stayed 2 nights in August. There were 6 of us traveling so we rented two private rooms the first night and had to stay in two tent cabins the second night. We arrived at night so it was a slight challenge to find the cabins but really not an issue. Both cabins were clean and comfortable including the mattress in my room. Unfortunately we could not stay in them again and they were booked and had to move to a tent cabin. The cabins were fine and comfortable for what they are. I thought they were clean as well. As another poster mentioned it was a bit of a walk to our tent cabin to the showers/washroom. My daughters cabin was much closer though and not an issue. The staff were very friendly! The food there was also quite good and the lodge was nice, quaint, and had a rustic feeling. This is also a hostel, so they have those rooms as well.

If I'm back in the area I would still consider staying there. It is not a 5 star hotel, but it is very affordable to stay there. It was clean and again the staff was very friendly. Good food to!
