“Budget!”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

If you want budget accommodation, then this is it! I have never stayed in a hostel before (!) and was expecting a lot worse I have to say. I was in a shared, single-sex dorm. The dorm itself was filled with bunk beds and lockers. The beds themselves were clean and freshly laundered. In the dorm there are two shared showers (which again were clean and private) and also a row of three lavatories (these kept leaking, so wear shoes if you need the toilet in the night!)

The facilities included a great bar/restaurant, and as an English person, I was delighted that they served Cider at the bar! The bar/restaurant is made of wood and is really cosy with a big log fire, lots of tables, games to play, acoustic guitar, good music playing, etc. There is a good selection of food, but it is a little pricey in my opinion. (The granola and yogurt was the cheapest breakfast option and was tasty.)

As I'm aware there are more 'luxurious' and private accommodation, but I only saw the private tent and one of these had a spiders nest in, so I preferred to stay in the dorm! There is also a hot tub apparently, but I didn't get time to use it.

You can also buy all sorts of things from the front desk shop, including towels, bug spray, tooth paste, etc etc.

This place was perfect!
We booked a "Double room with private bath" and could not have been happier with the accomodation. We were given a room in the Liberty Cap cabin (only two rooms per cabin) and the decoration inside was bizarrely decadent but fantastic! We had two large queen beds which were fantastically comfortable especially after a long day trecking in the valley.
The place was so lovely and quirky as well as clean and spacious.
The Yosemite Bug Cafe was something else again! The food was brilliant and there were loads of vegan and vegetarian options which is hard to find on a California road trip at times.
The first night we were there there was a great band on called DelaRay and the Jespersons and apparently this is something that happens every Saturday night. Such a great sociable spot for families, couples and people of all ages and with its own spa, hammock and even a ping pong table, it was a great sociable and unusual place to stay to explore the most beautiful place on earth :)

We stayed for two nights in one of the rooms, and it has been a little beacon of happiness on our two week road trip. A refreshingly laid back, friendly, lively yet relaxing and quirky little place. It's a relief to get away from the crowds of the park, and the food... The food... It's simple yet delicious, healthy and indulgent. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the park. We're sad to leave. An hour drive to Yosemite valley, but really, it's a beautiful drive and this is a smashing place to stay.

stayed in a tent cabin, like camping but the tent is up. very friendly, a bit of a climb to the coed toilet/shower room, had to get used to guys being in the same bathroom as me,
Great food, they will pack a trail lunch to go, much cheaper then anything in Yosemite valley. And a lovely spa for after the hiking
I was traveling alone, had a nice community café room to hang out in.

Being the sort of people who like the outdoors but also want modern day amenities, we spent a night at the Yosemite Bug in a room with private bathroom.
The Bug is located in the mountains and the scenery is great - very rustic indeed.
Our room was very spacious as was the bathroom - loads of space and even though it was just me and my husband we had two queen beds.
It seemed clean but prehaps not to the standard I'd like it to be, but then again you're in a "rustic" lodge..
The shower pumps water from their ground and this is nice to know but it also meant that the water had hardly any pressure to rinse the soap. After a day & night there, we were desperate for a proper shower.
The cafe/restaurant had a nice "mountain", youthful and friendly atmosphere and the food was surprisingly good considering where you were but there was always a smell (of dirty dishes?) lingering..so if you like everything to be spin span clean, this is not the place for you.
I would have enjoyed it more in my 20's when I didn't care for amenities so much and was looking to meet other people my age.

I stayed here for 3 nights in a tent cabin as part of a big trip to California. Although the tent cabin was basic there were communal showers and loos up the hill. The location is perfect, in the woods, and waking up to birdsong coupled with the beautiful scenery was pretty amazing.

It's about an hour to drive in to Yosemite itself but the accommodation there is hugely expensive and the drive takes you through such beautiful scenery. The food is great some of the best I had on the trip they also have some lovely craft beers on tap too.

They also have live music and the the cafe area is a great place to meet and chat to fellow travellers.

At first I thought to myself this is rustic, really rustic. But once I got the room (Private room and Private bath with one queen and two twins), it was all good. The room was clean and easily accessible from the parking. It's not so much a modern place, but it is not a whole in the wall neither. They offer everything you need and I would equate it to a 3-star hotel. It's a good place to stay and definitely to meet new people. They have a cafeteria that serves excellent food. If you want to try something outside, Mariposa isn't too far away with great eateries located near the center of town. But like I said, the food they serve is good and the cafeteria during dinner is alive and well. They have wifi located in the cafeteria, but not in the room. You might come across a lot of Europeans students there. I guess word of mouth among the Europeans travel fast that this is a good place to stay.

Room Tip: I don't know about the other rooms, but my group got the private room with private bath. I foun...
