Vegetarian dishes, NOT too spicy or HOT and they can accomodate most requests along those lines. And the mango lassie or other flavors are delicious. Always order extra so we have some for a couple of meals at home.

“Tandoori Surprise in the San Joachin”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

Excellent Indian food and Naan bread in a low-lit, quiet, unassuming atmosphere. I have been making two trips to Merced every year since 2007. I had trouble finding a place to eat after New Stars Vegetarian closed in 2009. I have been eating at this place every year since and find the pleasantly spiced cuisine of TOLI hits the spot. The Shrimp Tikka Masala is especially tasty-- plump gulf-sized shrimp in a rich, tomato-based sauce that includes mushrooms or potatoes.

The dearth of quality restaurants in Merced does not mean that this place is only considered quality by comparison. This great little Desi restaurant would be a major contender in any city in the country, and who knows, maybe even in India itself!

“Who knew? Great Indian food in Merced!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 6, 2012

So visiting Merced for our bi-annual reunion, and cruising around looking for a good sit down restaurant and fairly healthy food to eat. We pulled in and decided to go for Indian food. This place ended up being super busy (and definitely needed a couple of more servers). We weren't really greeted (a female hostess would be nice too) but the place looked clean and the dishes we saw being served looked and smelled amazing. The gentlemen who did greet, serve etc..were nice. Don't expect super fast service...we weren't in a hurry and chit chatted to pass the time. We tried their special Naan and it was devoured in seconds! The best we have had ever :). All of our dishes were flavorful, good spices, etc. We were pleased to have found this gem in little 'ole Merced! We shall be back!

“Great food,”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2012 via mobile

The food is great. We ordered the dinner for two and portions were quite a bit smaller than when you order each thing individually. That should not have surprised us since it was much cheaper, too. ($21.95 for two servings of pork curry, chicken tikka masala, daal, naan and salad). They allowed us to sub saag paneer for the pork curry since we wanted that. They also added a piece of Tandoori chicken and rice which we did not expect. Service was slow (ordering and food delivery) but our water glasses were kept full. Everything tasted great. I have eaten there many times years before when I lived in the area. There was no splitting charge since my wife and I fed our five year old off our plates. Dinner for three for $23.87 + tip, that is crazy good value. With tasty food, why wouldn't you go here? However if a couple is really hungry, don't get the dinner for two.
