“Good food and ok service.”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

We love to try bbq place and were hoping this one would be good. I ordered the prime rib dinner and it was awesome. My husband had ribs/chicken and he said it was just ok. Service was ok. Had to ask 3 times for a glass of water and when it came to check time we couldn't find the waitress. All in all worth a visit.

“This appears to be a duplicate restaurant posting”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

This restaurant also appears as BBQ Pit in the reviews of Merced restaurants. I just finished writing a review under the different spelling.

“Excellent Value And Service With Very Good Food”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

For the money, the restaurant serves a lot of food and is an excellent value. We ordered Pork BBQ Ribs off of the senior menu for under $7! It came with 2 HUGE ribs, a baked potato, and string beans. Substitutions are available. The taste of the BBQ sauce on the Ribs was outstanding. The sauce was just the right combination of sweet, salt and hot. If you like BBQ, you must visit this restaurant. For $12.50, you can order babyback ribs instead off the regular menu. The baked potato arrived hot with butter and sour cream. The Senior menu serves enough food for light and moderate appetites. The main menu serves enough for big eaters and those who like to take food home.
The pie desserts were $3 each. The apple pie was disappointing because it was baked without butter. Therefore, it only tasted average, with lots of brown sugar on top. The Pecan Pie was equally disappointing. There are 4 other pie varieties, sundaes and floats available. We recommend you try those if you have dessert.
We ordered tea to drink. It was served with a plastic bear filled with real honey. The waitress kept us supplied with hot water.
The service was absolutely excellent. The food was brought out hot. Orders were taken quickly and efficiently. The server was pleasant and polite.
The restaurant has the appearance of a 1950's drive in diner. It has real character. The building is older and the furniture is dated. But it appeared to be clean and well maintained.
The restrooms appeared to be clean and well stocked.
Easy free parking was available right out front.
The location is within 2 minutes from Freeway 99. If you are southbound, exit MLK Blvd, turn left, go across railroad tracks and proceed to Main street (about 4 blocks from fwy), turn right on Main and go about 4 more blocks to Main and G Streets, where you will see the restaurant on the northeast corner. It has a pig statue out front. From Northbound 99, exit 16th Street, go about 3 blocks, turn right on G Street and go one block. Due to temporary road construction in the area, you may need to exit at MLK Blvd if the ramp is closed.
Enjoy!

“Home cooked meal”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

The decor isn't fancy and, in fact, is really outdated, but the food was delicious. I asked for the pulled pork without a bun and they were happy to oblige. I also ordered fries and coleslaw. Right or wrong, I grade a restaurant based on its coleslaw... I was very pleased to find it was yummy. Reasonable prices, too.
