“TOO NOISY”
Reviewed August 23, 2010

We stayed at this hotel because we thought it was a good value for the rate. We were very disappointed with the noise level. Our room was on the second floor facing the Highway and near the railroad tracks. Needless to say, we had practically no sleep the entire night. If I had known this, I would have preferred a lower rated hotel that could offer a more peaceful atmosphere. If you want to rest, don't count on this one.

We stayed one night at the Hampton Inn Merced when we were on our way to Yosemite. The room both very clean and comfortable. Compared to other Hampton Inns, this room was significantly larger than average. The staff was helpful, too.

The entire place seemed very quiet. I didn't notice any train noise, as other reviewers had mentioned.

I would definitely stay there again when in the area.

We stayed for two nights and it was very clean, beds were comfortable, flat screen TV's and the breakfast was wonderful! We really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.
I would also recommend it to friends and family. Oh, yes!! there is a Mexican restaurant Mi Casa around the corner from the hotel and it was really fresh authentic mexican food.. Loved it!!
We were also able to take a drive down to Yosemite Park just an 1 1/2 drive, road that takes you there is just a few blocks from the hotel.

WE stayed here on our way from Yosemite en route to Monterey. Very nice, clean rooms, with a large shower. Staff was very friendly & the free breakfast was excellent, served in a spacious area on the first floor opposite the reception desk.

Stayed three nights at the Hampton Inn. The rooms were nice with a very comfortable bed, nice amenities - lotions, etc. Coffee pot. Breakfast was good with eggs cereals, etc. I had a room on the back side of the hotel away from the train tracks and the highway; however, there is construction going on behind the hotel, so don't think of sleeping late until the building is completed The only problem we had was with the desk clerks. Some of them seemed to not have a clue about what was going on. There was a large group of us (pretty much took up the whole hotel) and we were trying to get come connecting rooms - just couldn't get it done!!
If I ever go back to Merced I would certainly choose this hotel!

  • Liked — comfortable bed
  • Disliked — desk clerks not very accomodating

Although I requested a quiet room, we ended up with a King room facing the railroad track and highway, both located across the parking lot. The room itself was beautifully done -- very modern looking and all new and clean with a fridge and microwave housed in a wooden cabinet, plasma tv, and comfortable bed. But that train was incredibly loud. The loud air conditioning wall unit added some "white noise" that drowned out most of the drone of the highway but the train was too loud -- a train passed by at least hourly during the night. It didn't wake us up during the night though.

The breakfast area was great and well-stocked throughout the breakfast time. They had some egg things and white gravy and biscuits, cold cereal, packets of hot cereal, fresh fruit salad, muffins and danish, coffee and tea. They also provided us with sack lunches (sandwiches on rolls, chips, fruit) to take on our drive. The staff was nice. This would be a great hotel if you were on the back side of the building -- request a room furthest from the train tracks.

I think they put us in a "accessible room" and the bathroom was large with a walk in shower instead of a tub.

There were at least 4 other hotels in the same area so all would have the same issue with the train tracks. I noticed that some of the maps on their websites didn't show the train tracks. I'll know to ask next time!

  • Liked — Complimentary breakfast, beautiful decor
  • Disliked — Located close to train tracks
