A total surprise in busy noisy Silicon Valley. This place is well set back from El Camino Real and totally free of road noise. Looks like an older motel, but the interior decor and furnishing are first class and really refined. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of accommodation. The free WiFi works really well, and the breakfast offerings are quite adequate. The only slight drawback is the shower, very low flow and barely adequate. When I queried this they immediately gave me a new room for the next day; it was better but not great. With a good shower it would definitely earn a full 5 stars. I would definitely stay there again.

I stayed here in September during my daughter's orientation at Stanford, on a friend's recommendation. I was delighted: the location was great; the room was charming, with a little private patio; the outside courtyard under the huge CA oak tree was a very pleasant place to have coffee in the morning; great free Internet; and breakfast was, if not luxurious, more than acceptable. The room had a small refrigerator and a nice single-cup coffee maker. The staff was wonderful; they found an article I had put in the trash by mistake and mailed it to me without charge. Plenty of parking and I'm not sure why people say they have trouble finding it; there's a big sign right on the street. The best part was the price -- I could easily have spent three times as much at the Rosewood Sand Hill for much less value. (Don't get me wrong; the Rosewood is lovely but you don't get breakfast, a frig in the room or a K-cup [espresso not the same]). I've already booked for Parents' Weekend in February!

From the outside, it looks like a 1950s motor inn, which I'm sure is how it started. But the rooms have been quite nicely updated, with comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. The downsides are that the bathroom is small, with the fixed showerhead quite low, and there is no elevator to the second-story rooms. That said, it is quite acceptable for the price. Breakfast is included, and it is decent, not exceptional. The location is very close to good restaurants in Menlo Park and a 5-10 minute ride to Palo Alto and Stanford.

Room Tip: Ask for first floor if you don't like to climb steps.

This was our second visit. We choose Red Cottage Inn and Suites as it was convenient to family and friends and because we enjoyed our first stay. We were not disappointed this time. Our room was located on the ground floor adjacent to the swimming pool, with direct access to the pool area. Although we didn't spend a great amount of time in the room during the day, having a patio area by the pool to take out coffee or breakfast was a pleasant bonus. The rooms have been recently refurbished and were well maintained.

Our room was big by UK standard and well well equipped. We particularly enjoyed morning coffee from the Keurig coffee maker in the room.

Breakfast was included in the room rate and was ideal for our needs. Breakfast could be taken in the small breakfast room, or eaten in the room if preferred.

The staff at the suites were always helpful, particularly Yhan on the front desk.

Free wireless internet access was a bonus and helped us keep in touch with friends and confirm arrangements.

In all our second visit to the Suites was as good as our first and we hope to return again.

Room Tip: We preferred the poolside rooms and asked for one when booking. This request was fulfilled. Light...

This is a lovely small motel if you need to be near Stanford University. It is set way back from El Camino, in Menlo park and so is much quieter than the other properties it competes with, most of which are right on the street. It is very near good restaurants and has well appointed rooms and baths. Beds are excellent and have nice linens. Our room (115) was located in a section of the motel that has little private patios, which was a lovely amenity. Breakfast is the usual simple spread, but of high quality, good quality coffee, fresh baked goods, fresh fruit, hardboiled eggs cooked in house, assortment of cold and hot cereal. We will stay here again for sure next time we need to be in the area. Better than past choices.

Room Tip: If it is not during the summer, when it would be nice to be oerlooking the pool, ask for a room in t...

Very good value would be the words that describe this restaurant. On an area that is full of noisy inns and super expensive hotels it is quite nice to have a hotel with decent rates and full of nice touches.

The hotel as other, reviewers have mentioned, does not look very nice from the outside. In fact when arrived I thought "Am I going to sleep on barracks?". But the room interior is very cozy and comfy. Rooms are big. Many rooms have patio. There is a pool too! The rooms have a big TV, a coffee machine, air conditioning, fridge and even a microwave.

The breakfast is ok. Breakfast-addicts will find it poor as it lacks all the "bangers and mash"-like stuff which I do not miss by the way. The only issue I had was that the bathroom's door got locked at 6.30 AM. I went to reception and I had a guy at 7.30 AM fixed. Quickly enough to have a morning shower before working. Apart from that the other bad thing is the noise. You will not hear any cars, but the room's walls are really thin. I spent all the week jet-lagged so it didn't mind it much, but my room neighbours used to wake up at 5 with the radio set very loud. That can annoy you if you get unlucky with the room location. The same happened with the fridge which was very loud and I had to disconnect it.

So, in summary, if I ever come back to this area I will be standing again in this hotel, unless there is a better deal elsewhere which I doubt as this is very good value for money as per the area standards. Definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: There is nice rooms with patio.
