“Excellent Staff Nice Accommodations with an Asteric”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

Stayed here for one evening while on business in Silicon Valley. It is a short drive to Stanford and close to main street Palo Alto.

If you are looking for a high end hotel this is a very nice one. The staff are very good, welcoming, focused, listen quite well, and willing to walk you to whatever you need on the property. The rooms are not cheap but they are spacious and well appointed. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom is modern and supplies good amenities. The fitness center is open 24/7 and has a good offering of aerobic and anaerobic machines --- not the most-up-to date --- but good.

There are some things to be aware of however. Don't use the mini bar -- it is very expensive and don't make local calls from your room --- abusively expensive for today's world. A half bottle of white wine, two glasses was $54 and a 40 minute phone call to San Jose was $47. Come on!!

If you are looking to hold a private business dinner for 20, not sure this is the place but the lounge and Madera restaurant are nice.

Net net; if you are looking for a high end hotel, can afford the room rate, and deciding between the Four Seasons and Rosewood, this is a better choice. But beware of the items described above.

Best place to stay in the Palo Alto area from a service perspective. They take great care of you. Rooms are huge, if uninspired from a decor perspective. The biggest downside to Rosewood is the location -- it's close for meetings and clients located nearby, but terrible for taking a walk around town, grabbing a quick bite away from the hotel, etc.

Insanely expensive, but that's what you get in this area.

Stayed here for business multiple times, and I've always been satisfied. I especially enjoy the restaurant and bar at the hotel. The staff is very attentive and helpful. The location of the hotel makes getting to meetings on the other side of Sand Hill Road very easy.

Stayed three nights in a luxury suite in this suburban upscale property. Room was warm and comfortable, with irresistible gas-lit fireplace in the living room. Bed was extraordinarily comfortable. Bathroom and shower were fine, though shampoo accessories were largely unusable due to non-functioning pump dispensers. Tasteful, elegant grounds, and an outstanding restaurant (Madera). Service from all staff was extremely prompt, polite and efficient.

If you are in the Palo Alto area looking for a tremendous hotel, whether on a family trip to visit Stanford, or here for business/leisure, I am not sure this Rosewood lives up to my expectations of what I hoped for in a 5-star/Cadillac resort like the Rosewood is known for. To start, the rooms look no better than a Westin, Hyatt, Marriott or any other 4-star hotel. Food is delicious, but the menu is pared down, not a lot of offerings, particularly for kids. Room service takes awhile, is extremely expensive, and not all that amazing. The rooms, called cottages, are so far from the front desk, and you do have to walk through a lot of concrete pathways to get to your room, which in our case (as in another reviewer's case) is overlooking the expressway, no different from an Econolodge or other economy-style hotel off major expressways. The service is mediocre, nothing tremendous. I think the next time, I would try one of the other hotels closer to the college we are visiting. One that doesn't cost quite so much for a "resort" property that feels like anything but a resort. Sorry, Rosewood.

Room Tip: Pick a room closer to the lobby so you don't have to walk forever to get to the dining room.

This review is for the Alex Chases Salon at the Rosewood hotel. The salon is a beautiful, open and modern space. It is seperate from Sense Spa so you can gossip as loud as you want with your hairstylist. My haristylist was Elaine and she was so awesome and nice. I left the salon feeling like a celebrity!

Stayed here a few times. Always great. Convenient location off 280 vs having to deal with traffic through Palo Alto. If you are doing business in Sand Hill/Palo Alto area or visiting Stanford, best place in the area to stay.
