Location is great. The hotel is easy access to just about anything. Service is great until 9pm. After that, you are pretty much on your own until the next morning. Good continental breakfast. Room looks old and dated.

Room Tip: Room with an ocean view.

We had no idea until we arrived that the TV show "Murder She Wrote" was filmed in the village of Mendocino and that the Hill House Inn (Cabot Cove Inn) was used often in the same show. So much for the "craggy coast of Maine" where Cabot Cove was supposed to be located. The lobby is filled with photos from the series and we enjoyed picking out the stars that were in the show over the years.
The staff at the front desk was familiar with the TV show and very friendly in general about things to do locally. The rooms were quite cozy and the large bed was divine. Very comfortable. We had a garden room which was just fine and less expensive than the ocean view rooms.
The Inn is an older property and nicely appointed. It's not for those who want glitzy modern hotels. It's located just on the edge of the village within easy walking distance of shops the playhouse, and art galleries.
Parking was free and just a short walk from our room.

Room Tip: The ocean is a long way off so there's no need to spend more money to book a room with a view be...

Working for a hotel that was featured in a very popular TV series is exciting and we always enjoy the fans of the show "Murder She Wrote" as they discover that this is where it all happened. Photos of co stars in the series festoon the lobby wall and guests pore over those photos guessing the different actor's names. It is really rewarding when an avid fan discovers that they made the reservation for our hotel and did not discover the fact that we were the location for the show until they arrive.

Since Medocino is such a small town, while this B&B is located on outskirts, easy walk to town. Very clean, rooms are large and light. Has music on Sat nights in bar area which in mornings makes into a nice breakfast room. Great antiques and lovely public areas.

Mendocino is indeed a very small village and Hill House guests enjoy being able to walk down to dining and shopping in just a few short minutes. Hill House is one of the few places where you can do a little dancing and have a fine meal and be able to walk back to your room afterwards with the music ending at a decent hour to allow all of our guest a restful night's sleep. We appreciate the guest's comments regarding our facility as we are always striving to make it as beautiful and comfortable as possible for their enjoyment.

Checked in to this Inn without a reservation on Memorial Day weekend. They gave us a 40% discount on a room with two beds, and the service was very friendly and accommodating. The outside of the property is beautifully landscaped and the location was great, just a couple blocks from downtown. However, the lobby is completely over stuffed with antique furniture, rooms were very tired, but good sized. It didnt feel clean, beds were marginal. When asking for recommendations for dinner, the very nice lady at the desk would only recommend their own restaurant, or their sister property. While I understand this, it wasn't helpful if you didn't like their menu. It would have been an okay stay, but the price, even after a 40% discount, was exorbitant. For what we paid, I would have expected a room with new linens, carpet, and a clean bathroom.

Unfortunately for travelers coming to our area on holiday weekends the pricing in our village may seem higher than some areas, this is attributed to our remote location and limited number of accommodations. We realize that and try when we can to offer discounts to guests when we can. The décor of our hotel reflects a different era and the antiques displayed in our lobby were chosen with great thought by the owner. Many guests enjoy looking at these pieces during their stay and many photographs are taken in our lobby.

We enjoyed our stay in our ocean view king sized room. Good waffle breakfast too. Our complimentary wine was excellent. I would suggest the addition of an ice machine on the grounds. room would benefit from updating. But room was clean with good bedding and very quiet.

I arrived late, after 8pm, and just barely caught the front desk lady before she left. I hadn't known from the website that the restaurant is no longer open, I had counted on an in-house dinner. I got adventurous and walked down to Patterson's Pub for clam chowder and hard cider, and was glad I did. The second night I used the 15% off opponents for dinner at the sister property, Mendocino Hotel, and had the most amazing meal, at the most incredible table with a gorgeous view.

The room is aging, could use updating, but was adequate. The heat, though, seems to be via steam in the floor vents, and I kept waking up Tom the percolating noises. The second night I used the fireplace instead, and slept better.

The Travelzoo package was supposed to include two tickets to the Botanical Gardens, and at check in they'd run out of paper tickets, so promised to call and put my name on the will call list. I confirmed this again the next morning, but when I arrived the Botanical Gardens had no will call list from Hill House and acted pretty annoyed, though did eventually grant me entrance.

I was amused to drive four hours from Sacramento, past what seemed like every wine grape in the state, and then receive a free bottle of wine from Lodi (near Sacramento).

We did a Groupon weekend at The Hill House and enjoyed it. The front desk was knowledgeable and helpful.

The rooms are comfortable, although the linens seemed a bit old and not up to the highest of standards. The gardens lovely. We enjoyed the ocean view at sunset on the deck with the wine that accompanied the Groupon special, even though you need to look past a parking lot for the trees and the ocean.

The breakfast menu is limited, but the fare is fine if you're not into big breakfasts - it's do-it-yourself, with bagels (fresher than we expected), fresh fruit, eggs, and make-it-yourself waffles. For lunch or dinner, they provide you with a 15% discount to the restaurants at their sister establishment on Main Street.
