What started off as a disastrous vacation in Mendocino last week was rescued by the folks at the Stanford Inn. We had rented a house on line that looked very sweet. When we arrived after a four hour drive in the rain, the house turned out to be a nightmare...so we ventured out into the storm to find more suitable accommodations. We turned in at the first place we passed....it turned out to be the Stanford Inn. The woman at the front desk didn't seem at least discomforted by the 4 strangers that had turned up on her doorstep without a reservation. She had us settled in to our room in time to watch the Academy awards warmed by the in room fireplace.

Initially, we had planned on staying only one night ....thinking that we would find another house rental the following day. However, after a sumptuous breakfast and a chance to absorb some of the warm and welcoming ambience of the Inn, we decided to spend four additional nights. Another of the seemingly endless supply of good natured staff took us on a tour of all of the available suites.....we finally selected the Douglas Fir 2 Bedroom Suite where we settled in and were pampered for the rest of our stay.

We tried many of the amenities....hot tub, pool, and massages. All were excellent........the massages the most extraordinary that any of us had ever experienced. No one in our party was a vegetarian, so we were initially a bit skeptical about eating at "The Ravens" restaurant at the Inn, but don't miss it if you go.....the food is delicious....breakfasts a special treat. We had the same waitress every day, a wonderful young woman named Natalie...she attended to our every culinary whim with great good cheer.

What else to say, other than we are already planning a return trip to the Stanford Inn.....and we are only sorry that we didn't have our dogs along to enjoy the Inn.....it is a much different experience than the so called "pet friendly" accommodations often advertised. Here, animals are not just tolerated, they are revered. Do yourself a favor and stay here if you're ever in the Mendocino area.

We came back for a second time primarily because of the Inn's pet friendly attitude. The rooms are warm and inviting. We love the wood burning fireplaces. I'm not crazy about vegitarian food but have found some dishes I really enjoy and breakfasts are tasty and generous. We'll be back again.

We stay at the Stanford Inn twice a year, and we have done so for ten years. The only thing that ever dissapoints us is the weather (sometimes). We love the inn. The service is great. From the moment we walk in the doors we feel welcomed and pampered. The front desk staff has always made us feel at home. Once we had trouble with our VCR at ten thirty and someone rushed right over to fix it.

We love the food at the Ravens. It gets better every visit! From the gardeners to the housekeepers, you can tell that people at this inn really care about what they are doing and are working hard to ensure you have a wonderful experience.

We will always return to the Stanford Inn- they always have something new to surprise us!

Although quite pricey, my husband and I had a wonderful stay. The bungalo room was very well arranged with ammenities to make a fire in the fireplace and wine waiting for us; The soothing but inspiring colors, plush comfortor and pillows, beautiful landscaping of the gardens only made the experience even better. We actually saw real Ravens! We highly recommend this for an adult get-away experience.

The location is great - although slightly off center compared to other B&Bs that are closer and within walking distance from the downtown. But thats where it ends. The customer service is simply horrible. First the front desk receptionist was rude, but heck she was only following the "policies". The owner Jeff showed up and was probably the most uncivilised person i have talked to. He has no courtesy of talking to women and cared more for a measly 20$ than for a good customer experience.

My boyfriend surprised me with an overnight getaway and it was wonderful. We loved everything about the place, from the romantic setting, the comfortable heavenly beds, plus the fact that we could take our dogs with us. If you are a god person, you will LOVE this place. Dogs are treated as well as the guests, and you can even take your dog to dinner with you! We will definately return, especially since we got engaged while there!
