“We love this B&B!”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

My husband and I just returned from our 4th stay at this lovely B&B. It is right in town so we can just park the car and walk into town to enjoy all the fun shops or dine in any of several high-quality restaurants. We especially like the staff at the JD House, Becky being our favorite. She is always so welcoming and really knows the area well so can give advice on the best places to visit. The views of the ocean are wonderful here as well and the bluffs are only a short drive or a brisk walk away. Try the food and atmosphere at the MacCallum House - another favorite. Or join the locals at Patterson's Pub - always fun and good food.

Room Tip: The Captain's room has the best room but the bathroom is small and not well-lit. Go for Osprey...

Every time my wife and I go to Mendocino, we stay in the Osprey Room at the JD House. You get an amazing view from an amazing and very comfortable room!! The staff there are very helpful. Breakfast is always great, and they use local produce. I think we have stayed there four times. We have never been disappointed. We look forward to our next stay. If you are looking for a great place to stay in the heart of Mendocino, the JD House is the place for you!!

This was our second time staying in the Port room at the JD House. We enjoyed our first trip and felt that it was a good place to visit again. We were not disappointed. We love going to Mendocino and relaxing. That is exactly what we did. Next time we will plan further in advance and get one of the second floor rooms so that we have a private balcony and a little better view.

Don't miss the breakfast! The scones are always good and the risotto quishe is amazing!

My husband and I perused many a website of Mendocino accomodations in anticipation of our upcoming weekend getaway. Most seemed high priced, too frilly or too far from the center of town. We came upon the JD House, but being late in the game, the only room available was the Water Tower room, which also happens to be the cheapest. We booked it and are so glad we did ... what a deal! While it sits right off the street, and doesn't have a view, it is still a pretty cool little place to spend a night. The water tower itself is original, historic and very charming. The room was clean, nicely decorated and we thoroughly enjoyed cozying up with our books by the wood stove in the sitting area. You have access to the beautiful garden, back deck and main rooms of the house, including a fairly good breakfast. We also took full advantage of being able to walk out our door and take just a few steps to be in the heart of Mendocino's restaurants, shops and charm. The innkeeper was also very helpful, making photocopies of maps for us, as well as an evening dinner reservation. We felt this place was quite a value compared to some of all the other places that are touted so frequently.

Room Tip: The Water Tower room may be the best deal in Mendocino!

My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in the Osprey room, Rhonda made us feel right at home the minute we got there and the accommodations were very quaint and clean, the view from the room was spectacular, you can see the village and the ocean. They prepare breakfast in the morning and it was very good, homemade scones and fruit and quiche. Everything is walking distance to the village. We met Becky as well who works at the inn and she was terrific. We had massages booked from the inn from Glenna, who really made us feel so relaxed and she is full of knowledge and knows exactly how to work those kinks out. We miss her already! Also you have to ride the Skunk train from Fort Bragg to Northspur, The Redwoods are so beautiful. We cant wait to go back! I want to retire to Mendocino.

Room Tip: The Osprey or Raven are very nice, balcony with views of village and ocean and there is a fireplace...

We stayed here for two nights over our honeymoon and were in Kits Cabin. We found the room really charming. We also really enjoyed the breakfast served -- probably the best warm scones and jam we've ever had. We organized a wine tour through our reservation and had no troubles. The tour was probably the highlight of our trip! Since Kits Cabin is one of the oldest rooms in the B&B the bathroom is was bit old and small. The sink was also located outside of the bathroom next to the bed. This really didn't bother us since we thought the room was very comfortable, quaint and budget friendly. I would recommend the JD house to anyone traveling to mendocino. If you prefer a nicer bathroom and have more money to spend you should ask about the other rooms which are more updated.

Room Tip: Kits Cabin is one of the most quaint rooms I've ever stayed in and has its own entrance from the...
