We had a wonderful time and experience at this lovely inn! Jim and Ayla were wonderful and made us feel very comfortable from the moment we arrived. The room was beautifully decorated and the cleanliness of both the room and the bathroom was so appreciated! The breakfast was delicious and well-received! Delivering the beautiful tray to our room was a lovely addition to a truly and most pleasurable experience! The location was perfect and we loved our ocean view. We hope to be able to return someday in the near future!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay. The innkeepers were nice and respectful. The room we had (Lookout 1) was clean and had great natural lighting. We were close to the beach as well as to major restaurants and massage parlors/salons etc. The breakfast muffins were warm and homemade (the remainder of breakfast was tasty as well). The main "con" we could identify was the shower: it was lukewarm at best and had poor water pressure. Otherwise, we loved our stay here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a budget/affordable stay in Mendocino.

Everything a B&B should be: warm and welcoming owners (Jim and Ayla), extremely comfy beds in clean and inviting surroundings. Special homey touches in the rooms and surrounding gardens (fresh flowers in rooms, paintings by local artists, furniture pieces carefully chosen to make it feel like home). The breakfasts are brought to your room and feature excellent homemade muffins, fresh-cut fruit, daubs of yogurt, and a whole pot of delicious coffee. Easy to walk anywhere in the town from here. A darling place.

Room Tip: The king-sized bedroom has a little more space.

We stayed for a weekend in September and it was PERFECT. Our room was small but so cozy and beautiful. You're right in town so you can walk to everything and be right on the ocean in minutes. The breakfasts are delicious, the coffee is great and the service really can't be beat. The folks who run the place are so friendly and sweet and helpful, you are very well taken care of. The garden area in back is a nice spot to just hang out............We enjoyed our weekend and plan on returning soon.

This is our second stay at this beautifully and lovingly maintained historic home and garden. The owners Ayla and Jim, along with their staff, could not be more accommodating; they were always available for any questions we had about the area. They also offer the perfect balance to privacy and interaction. After our three-night stay, it was a challenge to move on after such tranquility and pampering.

Our light-filled comfy room was just the right size for the two of us, typically small in an older structure. I felt like a princess in our sumptuous bed, enveloped in luxurious linens. Without the delicious breakfast of homemade muffins and scones, fresh fruit and steaming coffee brought to our room at our prescribed breakfast time, I'm not sure I would have made it out of our snuggly bed for our morning walks along the beach and bluffs.

We preferred not having to drive after out evening meal and drinks so the Sea Gull Inn was the perfect location at the edge of the small town, only a few minutes walk from any of the local restaurants.

Each room has a different character at the Sea Gull so do ask about the differences when seeking accommodations. We stayed in Lookout Two, which has a room above it. One early morning we were awakened by guests moving about but this was a result of the lack of insulation in the floors of the old building. Nonetheless, we look forward to returning to the comfortable Sea Gull Inn for another pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Each room is different in size and quietness so ask about the differences when seeking accomodations...

Our stay at the sea gull was the most recent of many pleasant experiences there. Charming. Great weather. Good breakfast with a little bubbly treat for my birthday. They do a good job. Nice upgrades from when we were there last.

Room Tip: Driftwood had a nice electric stove/fireplace. Ocean view.

The good stuff first. Mendocino is a very small town so everything is close, but a big advantage to the Inn's location is that they are at the edge of the town which makes last arrival parking so much easier than other locations in the city's grid. The Inn has a main building with rooms and some smaller cabins located in their delightful gardens. The ambiance overall is older, well worn, cozy, homey. We were very well received by Linda. I have not had a better experience with a host--ever. Just right in regards to the balance of privacy and attention. I could give lots of small details about her ways, but it is enough to say she made our experience there very pleasant.
We stayed in The Barn. It's a little building with a delightful porch for sitting out. But there are some important things to know about these lodgings. There is one private bedroom downstairs--not large, but comfy. The upstairs double is a much more difficult accommodation to use. There is a major drawback in the ceiling height. It is in the opened ceiling so it's not claustrophobic, but there is not enough headroom to stand up from the side of the bed, and even along the highest part of the roof pitch there are cross members that you must duck to walk the passage to the bed or stand in the highest part of the ceiling at the foot of the bed. This means a midnight visit to the bathroom downstairs could put your head at considerable risk, let along the issues you might have with getting children out in an emergency. This makes the heat circulation problem seem much less important, but the cabin is drafty and the heat all rises upstairs--There is no fan or distribution at all, just so you know. I loved the privacy and garden setting, and outdoor sitting options enough to stay in different accommodations again at the Sea Gull Inn.

Room Tip: Call and ask for details about your rooms. They are all different here.
