My wife and I spent three lovely nights with Bettilou and thoroughly relished in the beauty of the Ocen View room. The bluff about 50 feet from our windows dropped off to the Pacific -- so the sun, the fog, or the mist enveloped us every morning. Then Bettilou would walk into our room and provide a breakfast that made lunch unnecessary until 3 PM. Wow -- egg casseroles and quiche along with homemade applesauce and warm muffins.....delivered at our requested time. Each evening we enjoyed appertifs and wine while being fascinated by the varied species of hummingbirds just outside the window. Each evening our host would suggest a dining option and even made reservations for our Friday meal months before our arrival. Just five minutes from Mendocino and five minutes to Little River/Albion makes this location prime. Recommended for a romantic getaway for sure!

Room Tip: Spend a few dollars more and enjoy the ambiance of the Ocean View Room.

What a wonderful place this is. We were in the Ocean view room as we were the only guest, I had booked the Cove room but Bettilou let us have the better views. Wine time was wonderful and we had a really good chat to Bettilou. We were spread out in the guest lounge with all our laptops and other gadgets charging and it was no problem.
Breakfast was delicious and was served in our room, what treat.
We wished we were staying longer as it was so peaceful and quiet and such a delight.
We would recommend Bettilou's for a very warm and wonderful stay.

Bettilou’s Inn is perfectly situated on an isolated bluff overlooking the Pacific some one mile south of Mendocino. At first sight it appears a long rambling cottage but inside all is warm and cosy, very much a home from home. There are just the two comfortable ensuite rooms – The Ocean View and The Cove and Garden View - and we took the former simply because we felt you’d see more ocean – which indeed we did. The room had windows on 2 sides which made it bright and airy. As well as great views there was a queen bed and the room was a good size – although the bathroom was slightly cramped.

However, both the 2 ensuite bedrooms had the great advantage of sharing a common sitting room which is a great bonus for, say, 2 couples travelling together. It was also a great bonus for us, since we were the only occupants, and hence had the sitting room to ourselves. This was akin to having a private suite. The sitting room also looked out over the ocean and, with sliding glass doors, had access to an outside area where you could just sit quietly and watch – just you, the ocean and the hovering humming birds.

The whole operation is presided over magnificently by the wonderful Bettilou. Complimentary wine and nibbles happen around 4ish and is not to be missed – a very pleasant and relaxed occasion. We enjoyed our conversations with Bettilou – she is a gracious hostess without being intrusive. Breakfast is also a delight and we enjoyed a superb soufflé. This is a very special place and for some reason puts me in mind of a fantastic Hollywood movie set – it would be for an old fashioned mystery thriller set in a small remote cottage perched on the edge of a windy cliff against the backdrop of the mighty Pacific. So there we have it – Bettilou’s inn – a perfect place for dreamers.

This gem of a place looks out on the cove just south of Mendocino. No noise or disturbances, just the sounds of the ocean and the birds. You won't find a more warm and hospitable hostess than Bettilou. During "wine time" in the late afternoon you will enjoy lovely snacks as you watch the ocean and the hummingbirds from the guest living room. After a restful nights sleep, you will enjoy a hearty and most delicious breakfast. This was a real treat.

Room Tip: Splurge and get the cove view room...it's amazing.

I'm finally getting around to writing up Bettylou's place. Our stay was amazing! Last winter's storm was fierce, and the ocean was putting on her best show. We drove the coast until we found this gem with the best location possible.

I was looking forward to the sunset and booming waves lulling me to sleep. What was a surprise was how gracious our hostess was! Great treats, wine and conversation. We filled up on her appetizers, and didn't need diner! You don't find hospitality like this too often! I'm just keeping my promise to spread the word. Go visit Mendo during the day, and spend the evening here! Believe me, cause I know!

Room Tip: You gotta get the room with the direct view. That's why you are here, right?

Apologies to the song,"Hello Mary Lou, good -bye heart."

Hello, Betti-Lou!! Good-Bye Heart!!
Sweet Betti--Lou, We're so in love with you!!
We knew, Betti-Lou -We don't want to part!
So Hello, Betti-Lou, Good- bye heart!!

You caught my eye one trip-plan day-
We aimed the big blue bike your way!
We knew we wanted you forever more!
Now we're not ones to hang around,
But I swear our feet stuck to the ground!!
You're all we had to see for us to say....

"Good-bye, Betti-Lou, Good-bye heart!
Sweet Betti-Lou, we're so in love with you!
We knew, Betti-Lou, we had to part
So good-bye, Betti-Lou, good-bye heart!! "
THE END

We loved our stay with Betti-Lou! We were later getting in than we had hoped, but arrived just before a spectacular sunset, met by our sweet hostess who had two beautiful bottles of wine breathing in the oceanview living room, and a table loaded with yummy snacks. Betti -Lou is a fascinating, intelligent, wonderful person and the warmest bed and breakfast owner anyone could imagine. We could happily have visited til breakfast time!! She has that rare gift of making people feel like they have been friends forever. Our room and amenities were terrific, fabulous and the views from everyrom including the bathroom are beyond descriptin-exactly if not better than the photos on her website.
