My wife and I had a late dinner on a quiet weeknight at the MacCallum House. I had the MacBurger, a wonderful high-quality burger with cheese, BBQ sauce, and bacon. Somehow the description doesn't do the burger justice -- it was one of the best I've had.
My wife had the Niman Ranch pork chops. It was a huge piece of meat, perfectly done. The creamed corn side dish was so good I ordered a side.
So why only four stars? Our service was fantastic for the first 2/3 of the meal, attentive but never disruptive. Our water glasses were always filled and a couple special requests were perfectly executed. But around the time we finished, our waitress seemed to disappear. We waited more than 10 minutes for our plates to be cleared, and then another 15 minutes for cappuccino. And then maybe 15 minutes to get the check. Without exaggeration, it was more than 45 minutes from the time we finished until we signed the check.
We would absolutely visit again -- they deserve another chance, and the food was just too good not to enjoy again.
