Mendocino is a great vacation spot. In the winter and spring months, be prepared for rather inclement weather. We stayed in room 20. It is a nice house with needs for upgrades. Several of the rooms within the main house and barn have undergone upgrades, so it will be just a short while before they get to this property. It is farther than the stated 150 yards from the main house. It is a great location if you are travelling with children. It is reasonably priced. The upstairs bedroom suite is spacious and delightful. The downstairs bedroom will be really cozy, and the bed is very uncomfortable. The kitchen drawers have a tendency to not work properly (the entire drawer can come out and then the contents fall on the floor). The kitchen was filthy. We had a great time overall. The food was absolutely incredible. Robin is a great waiter. She readily knew how to deal with a family of four with a young child (2 yrs old).

During our stay, we never laid eyes on the Inn owners. The staff was never rude -- but was also never friendly. They run the place with silent efficiency and don't seem to desire contact with guests for any reason. We were surprised to be denied an 15-30 minute extension of our checkout time (on a Monday!) so that we could go whale watching. MacCallum House itself is in okay shape, but needs a lot of attention to detail and some cleaning up. We saw mold, water leaks, dirt and dust -- not what we expected for over $200/night. Dinner was heavy and one meal was not edible. There are other cafe's in town taht look much more apetizing. I'd give MacCallum House a pass and go for one of the lesser advertised B&Bs.

Our honeymoon .... we spent months planning to have a quiet, relaxing week. We stayed in The Barn which was described as private with a small yard for our dog. The deck is "the small yard" and the jacuzzi on the deck was in full view of the room upsstairs which we had never been told about. The deck was next to a small area that was used for yard debris - it stunk and drew flies.

The quiet never happened. The whole week they hammered setting up a huge tent for a political event and then were remodeling the room behind us - no naps possible.

Dinner reservations were a mess. My husband had picked out a table, made reservations and then when we were being seated - not the correct table and the host said they never reserve particular tables - but that is how they took the reservation and said no problem.... and the table number was on the reservation sheet......

Poor attention to detail, and careless, unprofessional employees.

We stayed for 3 nights in the Attack Suite of the Main House. The room was well appointed, cosy, and perfect for a family as it had two seperate bedrooms. The view was beautiful overlooking Mendocino to the ocean.

This room was not too noisy as it was on the third floor of the house, but I can certainly understand previous complaints about noise if you stayed in any of the other rooms in the Main House.

Overall it was very nice, the location can not be beat in Mendocino with easy access to all the shops, restauants, beach, and a short drive to many excellent hiking areas.

A few little quirks that were slightly annoying at $300/night - yes breakfast was included and it was indeed yummy, but any "sides" were an additional charge - ie: toast $2, bacon $3 - and each night at "wine hour" the cheese et al. were gone in 15 minutes never to be replenished, also if you order room service, in addition to the standard 18% gratuity they add a $10 room service charge to walk it up a flight of steps. It just seemed to cheapen the whole experience - I say add $25 bucks to your rates, keep your supplies ample and get rid of the nickel and dime charges.

Our stay was superb; we will definately recommend MacCallum Inn to friends & family. The suites building was exceptionally peaceful & quiet--just what we hoped for. Its location on the upper hill culdesac, away from the busier, automobile-crowded Village streets gives it a serene feeling. The music playing as we walked into the suites' house was a special touch. "Monte's view" was roomy, even as the smallest room in the suites building & had an awesome view across the Village buildings & tree tops to the crashing waves on the rocky beach. The gas fireplace warmed our room & gave it a cozy feel. Loved the personal, "Happy Anniversary" wishes card & wine. For as many couples who come to Mendocino for various celebrations, it was nice to have the special recognition. I did an exhaustive search over the internet & was very pleased with our final choice. Offering a full, complimentary breakfast (until 11:30!), was another selling point for us. The restaurant staff was pleasant, helpful, unpretentious, and gave us the privacy we needed during meals. The Friday evening hostess was welcoming & accomodating after we arrived from our long drive up the coast. Except for a few, minor cosmetic improvements needed in our room (carpet/tub), everything was what we expected & more.

We went here to stay for our honeymoon. The room was awesome, the food at the restaurant was the best I've ever had, everything was really perfect. We got a free glass of wine each evening and breakfast was included - not just continental, but full breakfast from the menu. Again the food was just awesome. We had breakfast overlooking the many shops and a fantastic view of the ocean. We will be going here every year on our anniverary. Thank you.

The staff of the MacCallum House was wonderful as always. Since Megan, Jed and Noah took over a few years ago, improvements are constantly happening at the site. There are a lot of us that come to the Whale and Wine Festival every year, and we always enjoy the experience at this lodge! The staff constantly strives to insure the pleasure of it's guests, and should serve as a prime example of how a service enity should perform. I can only thank them for the wonderful stay each time, that compliments the whole weekend stay each year.
