“Mendocino Madness”

There are five of us ladies who have been friends for 30 years. For the last 13 years we have taken advantage of living in California by going to a different location to shop, eat, party and be teenagers again for a weekend (none of us has seen teenagehood in at least 40 years). We stayed at the MacCullum House this last weekend in one of their vacation home rentals. We had our own little house overlooking Mendocino Bay, complete with two bedrooms, living room and dining room, kitchen and two baths. We had a blast! We were right in the middle of town with all the shopping right within easy walking distance. The most fabulous restaurants were only blocks away (including the restaurant at MacCullum House which is excellent). All of this with the scenery folks drive miles for right outside our window. To top the weekend off, a storm came in from Alaska and we were treated to the most spectacular display of wave activity I have ever seen right from our kitchen window. We must have sat there for two hours watching the ocean put on its show. The breakfasts were grand and all the folks who worked there were most helpful. We will difinately be back and please save the little house for us.

We enjoyed two relaxing days at the MacCallum House Inn and hated to leave. I especially liked breakfast on the sun porch with a view of the ocean. The food was delicious, choices were wonderful and the staff was friendly and didn't rush you out. The rooms are well-appointed and make you feel at home. Highly recommend this wonderful retreat on the Pacific Ocean.

Over the summer, my hubby and I drove down the California coast from Oregon to Los Angeles. MacCullum house was our favorite stop on the trip and we both agreed that it was the nicest place we had ever stayed! We booked the Redwood Cottage, an charming little free-standing cottage with it's own tiny perfectly manicured private lawn and a steaming private outdoor hot tub. Our package included the wine hour upon arriving in the cozy bar and a very nice breakfast the next morning.

My husband and I stayed at the MacCallum house this past weekend. Our friends had their wedding reception on the grounds. The Inn was filled with guests who were in town for the wedding. Despite a full house we never felt crowded. Our room was so comfortable and had many wonderful amenities like L'Occitane products, coffee and tea for cold evenings and a flashlight to make our way around Mendocino during the dark nights. The staff was wonderful and so accommodating. The caterers for the rehearsal dinner went out of business and didn't tell the couple. The couple had to move a party of 40 people to the house at the last minute. The M house staff opened up the bar and brought down cheese plates with fruits for the guests while the grooomsman brought back pizza for everyone. They really saved the day because it was pretty impossible to find place that would accommodate such a large party. The breakfast is amazing. Everything on the menu is delicious and there is a lot of variety for guests compared to most B&B's. I would definitely stay there again!

We took a lovely scenic trip through northern California to see the redwoods, the coast, Napa Valley, and San Francisco. Of all the places we stayed, Mendocino was the best for us. A small quaint town with quirky little shops close to the rugged ocean...perfect for romantic or relaxing walks. We could have taken day trips to see the redwoods, the vineyards, etc. instead of hopping from one hotel/inn to the next. MacCallum House was beautiful and the people are experts in providing what a bed and breakfast should be. We brought our baby which is always a challenge for any parent but the staff was very accomodating. The restaurant provided excellent food and the atmosphere was so cozy warm. We also enjoyed the wine tasting in the afternoon with bread and cheese and fruit. We sat outside and watched people stroll by. It seems everyone is in a good mood here which helps you to unwind and soak it all in. I recommend this place for a long romantic get-a-way or just to de-stress. This was the only hotel out of 5 that asked for feedback which shows that they really do want to please. *****!

My husband and I just spent a long weekend at McCallum House in Mendocino and just want to say both the accomodation and the food was excellent.
We will be back.
P.S. I especially loved the soft feather pillows!

The restaurant is wonderful... even the locals agree that the food is fabulous. Everyone (the staff) is attentive and down to earth. Marty, the bartender, made a yummy huckleberry margarita that goes down really easy! Apparently huckleberries are in season. The rooms are clean and charming... each one is different but I still think #18 is one of the best and most romantic.
