We stayed in 17, I would stay again in a heartbeat. We had a private ground floor entrance, private outdoor hot tub, fire place, king size bed, small sauna, huge tub with jets plus more. Right outside our door was a garden. We also took our dogs. There is a dog park within walking distance. The inn keeper was nice enough to let us go off leash and throw some frisbees for our pup since she is well behaved. I loved the feel and history of the house, barn, and grounds.

The 1st night of our road trip from San Francisco to Seattle. We booked on recommendations from Trip Advisor and what a wonderful start to the trip. We stayed in the Carriage House (Room 10). The room was well appointed with attractive furnishings. The Inn and Grounds were beautiful and the private hot tub a joy after driving . We booked into the restaurant in the evening and it had a lovely atmosphere. The menu was varied and the wine list extensive. The food was well presented and the staff attentive. The Inn was extremely well situated near to the centre of Mendocino with easy parking. The log burning stove was easy to light and made our room very cosy on the only rainy day of the 2 week trip.
The Verandah where we were served breakfast was light and had views of the sea. We had a very relaxed breakfast and there was a wide choice of local food cooked to order. Again the staff were very friendly and attentive.
The only 'but' was beyond the Inn's control however it might be worth noting - we stayed on a Thursday and had a rude awakening at 6 a.m. with what we think was a rubbish truck outside the property, the noise went on for some 20 minutes. As the Carriage House is at the top of the series of cottages and by the road it was particularly strident. However this did not detract from the stay - indeed we got in the hot tub and then had a very pleasant walk through the village which is a beautiful setting with the historic houses and the coast.
It was a brief but very enjoyable stay.

Pros -
Very cool rooms that are different than your typical hotels or even B&B's
Quiet location, close to the water.
Free bottle of wine
Tons of in-room amenities (hot tub, fridge, DVD's, fireplace)
Excellent breakfast (yes, you do need to pay for the extras)
Katie (Katlyn?) is a rockstar bartender

Cons -
They took away the drink credits which is no biggie if you didn't know they used to have them
The service is lacking. Not the food/bar staff - they're great. But the hotel staff are tired, unenthusiastic, seem inconvenienced when you are in their presence. This includes the hostesses, check-in/out folks, and the "24/7" staff which is more like call 5 times before getting someone to pick-up

All-in-all - it's a sweet place to stay and Mendo is a very neat town. Just be prepared to spend a fair amount of money.

Room Tip: Room 10 has a super private hot tub. Room 8 & 9 have one too but not as private Ask them to swe...

We were on a road trip from San Francisco to Seattle and our guide book suggested that Mendocino was a pretty village so we arrived and went in search of accommodation!

Mendocino's claim to fame is that they filmed 'Murder she Wrote', but ignore the 'famous' hotel and head to MacCallum House! Arriving late, we were lucky they had a couple of rooms to spare and were offered a good deal for dinner, B&B.

Staff were all incredibly friendly and our room was spacious, good bathroom and had all of the amenities you'd want. Many rooms have much nicer views than ours - but we were latecomers.

We enjoyed our dinner and it was clearly a popular choice with residents and locals with a busy bar serving delicious cocktails. Breakfast had good choices and set us up for our ongoing road trip.

We loved the town/village of Mendocino and should perhaps have stayed a few more nights at the MacCallum House Inn to relax and enjoy the area more! next time?

Room Tip: Ask for one with a sea view?

We stayed in room #1 above the bar and Resturant for a moderate price mid week. No noise or other distractions. Room had lots of light and fine view over the roof tops and water tank toward the west sunset.

Room Tip: Ask for quite room if available.

The MacCallum House Inn is one of many really nice places to stay in Mendocino. We chose the MacCallum House to stay based upon online reviews, initial impression and the fact that they have a highly rated restaurant & bar within the home. We stayed in room #4, upstairs in the back of the inn. It was a quaint, nicely decorated room with an attached bath and modern amenities. Our only complaint about the room was that we could hear the radio playing in the kitchen below us until late in the evening. We were pleasantly surprised to have full complimentary breakfasts in their restaurant on the first floor. My wife and I both found the breakfast burrito to be the best we'd ever had. It was very unique with homemade sausage and roasted peppers, which gave it a French flavor. We had a choice of three different eating areas; the restaurant with a stone fireplace and rich dark woods, a sun room featuring a full view of Mendocino, and an outdoor patio. A cozy bar sits inside from the sunroom and features a fireplace, bar seating, a couple love seats, comfortable chairs and coffee tables. Service was top-notch during our stay, including the check-in clerk, restaurant servers and bartender. Rooms at MacCallum House Inn consist of those in the main house, a water tower, barn, detached suites and an off-site location with additional suites. The grounds include beautiful gardens with a lawn area and an adjacent parking lot. MacCallum House is situated one block from Main Street, which we liked in avoiding the busy day traffic to the town. Everything in Mendocino is within easy walking distance. The whole town seems to shut down after 9pm with the exception of one, maybe two pubs. It's a exceptional place to spend a relaxing vacation. Other places we looked at within Mendocino Village and would consider staying include the Blue Door Inn, Headlands Inn and the Mendocino Hotel.

Room Tip: Could hear music from kitchen in room #4

What we liked : beautiful room #13, with amazing sauna and jetted tub, comfortable and warm, cute restored water tower separated from the main house.

What we didn't like : it backed onto a noisy street with gardeners going by the front at 7:00am dragging wheelbarrows and garbage cans, and delivery trucks dropping off restaurant and next-door organic store produce at 7:30. Not a real Bed and Breakfast.

Biggest criticism and why we won't be going back : restaurant was TERRIBLE. It's not a traditional B&B so be warned before booking. You have to reserve a time at the restaurant and are given absolutely no preferred guest status treatment at all. The service was terrible, unhelpful, unprofessional, and slow. How long does it take to pour a cup of watered down weak coffee? About 20 minutes after the 10 minutes it takes you to be seated at the half empty restaurant on a Tuesday morning.

Biggest BIGGEST criticism : The cheap diner food served to 1950's rock and roll music in a restored Victorian mansion. We wouldn't have been surprised to see a girl on roller skates wheel out a chocolate malt, 45 minutes after it was ordered. The breakfasts had 4 options, any drink besides watered coffee or single tea bag cost extra, eggs were literally dripping grease, chicken-apple sausage was a hot dog cut in half, toast tasted day old at least. Burrito was dripping grease, slathered in cut rate guacamole, and the two halves were dropped on top of each other. Dinners were no better. We used one VIP guest coupon but the drinks weren't worth it. The appetizers (chicken with veggies and steak fajitas) cost us $60 and some serious grease induced indigestion. I don't know who they have reviewing the kitchen but it's not worth eating there when there are delicious restaurants down the street for WAY cheaper.

The room was nice, the grounds were nice, the town was nice, but we wouldn't recommend this "B&B" to anyone and don't feel our honeymoon stay was worth the price. We won't be back.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the main house or one of the "hot tub" rooms, they are TINY. Room 13 wit...

I would like to apologize that this guest did not enjoy their experience with us in our restaurant. All of our food is made daily from scratch using all organic ingredients, from the eggs, to the milk, vegetables, and even flour and potatoes. Our breakfast is served complimentary with a stay in one of our guest rooms and you are given a choice of 8 items on our full breakfast menu. We use nitrate free chicken apple sausages, locally smoked bacon, and house made sausage as our breakfast meats. We are very, very well known for the quality of our food and our guests really appreciate the breakfasts we offer each day as part of their stay. We also offer breakfast to public and host many local residents each day. Once again I am sorry these particular guests did not enjoy their food, but I am certain that we offer our guests a wonderful dining experience.
