This was not my first stay at the Mendocino Hotel and I continue to be impressed with the quality of the renovation they have done to this old and historic building. Our visit was during a "California cold snap" which means the temp only reached the mid-50's, and the hotel lobby with its welcoming fireplace seemed like the heart of the community - just as in the old days. The restaurant has maintained the high standards we've come to expect and the service is very much rural in its friendliness and informality. The perfect place for a little time off from the pace of city life.

Room Tip: Arrive before nightfall for a walk along the coastal access trail. The sunsets are fantastic.

Complementary postings always warm our hearts here at the Mendocino Hotel. Our staff tries hard to ensure that all of our guests have a wonderful time in a comfortable setting. Repeat visitors let us know that we are on track with providing excellent service.

We stay in a garden room. First, the shower had a hair in it and the comforter had stains on it. Second, the bed was so uncomfortable that after tossing and turning all night we got up at 3:30 and left. Finally, the room was very out dated. When we checked out the front desk guy told us that it was a very nice room and most people pay $300.00 a night for it! We would never stay here again.

I booked it from hotel.com, the price was not any less. Got a Eurpoean style room for $160. After reaching there we found out that there is a shared bathroom. room size was the size of my kitchen at home. Shady room. The only thing I liked was view from the common patio in the morning. I would prefer a worst Super 8 than staying here.
Additionally they have a restaurant in the first floor and room in the upper floors. The entry is from the restaurant and it smelled so horribly and I had to ask people if I am at the right place.
I am not sure about other hotels nearby but I would definitely not go at this place ever again.

Spent the night at this historic hotel, had a great dinner in the dining room and enjoyed the ocean view from the upper balcony. The room was a little noisy while the dining room was open as it was above the kitchen. Once the dining room closed it was quiet and by propping the door open we could hear the surf. The staircase was stunning. Just a beautiful, historic location and a real relaxing evening.

Room Tip: Rooms above the kitchen are noisy.

We visit the Mendocino Coast fairly regularly and have often popped into the Mendocino Hotel for some great clam chowder and coastal views while warming up. This time we did a quick mid-week trip to the coast during the holidays and thought we'd stay at the property. The staff and service were great. The lobby is a very charming Victorian sitting room with a fireplace and windows looking out onto the Pacific Ocean; a great place to play cards or sip an Irish coffee. We stayed in a garden suite room with a fireplace. The rooms were nice, more than adequate but a little worn and dated. Dinner in their Victorian dining room was also great. If you're looking for charm, good food, proximity to Mendocino shops and the headlands, this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Be aware that part of the property is European style, meaning not all rooms have private bath.
