My sweetie and I celebrated out 49th Wedding Anniversary in room 17, a Junior Suite at the Sea Rock Inn. It's the same room in which we celebrated our 42nd anniversary in 2006. This second floor room has a great view of the ocean waves crashing on rocks across Lansing Street and, also, of the Mendocino Headlands.

It doesn't even matter that it was foggy and overcast on the days we visited. It's beautiful whatever the weather. Sweetie left the room window open so we could clearly hear the lulling ocean waves crashing on the rocks (I could often hear birdsong, as well). He, also, lit a fire (with the wood left in the room for that purpose) in the black-framed Franklin fireplace positioned diagonally in the room. We could look at the blazing fire from the two red, leather chairs facing the ocean or we could watch the ocean.

We relaxed there for hours not saying anything. We could have enjoyed the wine the management left for us (I no longer drink alcohol). The bed was comfy, though the Scandia down comforter was a bit heavy. The room was warm enough and the bed had a lighter blanket on it as well. Besides that, my sweetie and I covered our legs with a large soft, red blanket while we sat in the red chairs.

The management was accommodating. Before we left for Mendocino, Linda honored my email request to make a dinner reservation at Cafe Beaujolais for our anniversary. The food, though expensive, is scrumptious. Linda, also, graciously took our photo in the breakfast room before we left (my sweetie was in shadow in the anniversary photo taken at the cafe).

I failed to mention that the Sea Rock Inn provides a hot quiche (varies), breads, rolls, sweets, yogurt, oatmeal, and fruits, juices, coffee, or tea for a make-it-yourself breakfast. My sweetie and I enjoyed ours each day to the gentle music and fine ocean view.

Our room included other amenities: TV/DVD, telephone, sitting area, private deck, binoculars, private bath with shower, European toiletries, hairdryer, robes, luxury linens, coffeemaker, ironing board, iron and a private deck.

Once again, we enjoyed our visit to Sea Rock Inn. We plan to visit again. Soon we hope. I recommend that you stay at Sea Rock Inn, sometime, too.

Room Tip: I prefer room 17, a private, upper Junior Suite, because it has great amenities and a wonderful view of the ocean and the Mendocino Headlands.

Thank you for letting us at the Sea Rock Inn help you celebrate your 49th anniversary. Junior Suite #17 is one of the most popular upper floor suites for celebrating special occasions. It's red leather chairs in front of the ocean view window add the romantic sparkle to the room! The headlands, even in the mist and fog conjure up that "Heathcliff" romantic feeling. We would love to celebrate another anniversary with you.

My wife and I used to come here quite regularly, but with some changes in our life over the years (children) we don't get away so much anymore. But for our anniversary this year we did a weekend at the sea rock, like we used to do. The rooms are awesome, with the easily the best views in town. The sound of the surf all night is fantastic. A wood burning fireplace and cozy chairs, with complimentary wine...creates a great atmosphere. They've upgraded to flat screen TV's since the last time I was here too which was nice. That used to be something we made fun of. It's within walking distance of town, their staff is extremely courteous. I love this place.

My only gripes, and they are minor: 1. No fridge. Trucking it down to the ice machine twice a day sucked. 2. The beds mattresses are not what they used to be. Now obviously after so many years of use, i would expect them to change the mattresses occasionally. However, the ones they had when we used to come were FAR softer and more cozy. It was one of the things we liked best about the place. This is not to say they are uncomfortable now, but they are a steep downgrade from where they use to be with a big thick pillow top mattress.

Room Tip: I'm marking terrible for swimming pool and fitness center, only because this hotel doesn't have these things. Not because I care.

It was so nice to host another visit from you for your Anniversary. Thank you for noticing our upgraded TV/DVDs. We appreciated your comments about the need for a fridge and are working on a solution to that idea. Our down feather beds have made our mattresses much softer for those who seek a less firm sleeping arrangement. Thank you again for your comments.

Everything from making reservations to directions to service to view to atmosphere to breakfast, this place has it all. And on top of it all, it is reasonable and friendly.

Room Tip: Room # 5 has a fantastic view of the coast and surf.

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for your kind accolades.

Cottage #5 is a very popular cottage as it has full ocean views from inside the cottage and out on the private deck. It was our pleasure to make your visit memorable.

Ok, I get it, California is expensive. I have become used to that, and plan accordingly. So when we decided to visit Mendocino, we knew hotel prices were going to be high. So we chose a place on the beach, and holding our nose, agreed to spend $200 a night. First the place is clean, convenient to the town, and next to a lovely stretch of cove, perfect for watching the waves and sunsets. But otherwise - the room was small, with bizarre knotted pine paneling from floor to ceiling. We were really surprised that there was no refrigerator or microwave. Then we were really surprised about the tv - its a tiny 14", set up high on a shelf. I noticed they had binoculars for ocean gazing, and we joked about needing it to watch tv. Now, we did not come to town to watch tv, but like to after a day out, relaxing in our room. And we could have lived with it had we not just paid $200, more than we had ever spent on a room. They provide robes, but had no pen or paper in the room? To be fair, they did offer to move us to another room but we just didn't want to bother. Breakfast was pretty typical, nothing special, and it wasn't served till 8. We needed to leave earlier, but was told they coudn't set it up earlier. Its not like they had to cook anything, just put out the hard boiled eggs, bread and friut on the counter for heavens sakes! Realizing now how small the town is, we will use another hotel that does not charge outrageous prices because its on the water, a place that has the amenities that we expect from any hotel that we stay at. We'll give this one a miss

Thank you for you review of Sea Rock Inn. We did take your advise and upgraded our TV/DVD players to new larger flat screens. We also have available a microwave and frig to our guests as well as accommodations with full kitchens.
Thank you again for your valuable feedback.
