The people, the scenery, the rooms, and the overall enjoyment of those who work there - especially Amy and Barbara. The owners Suzie and Andy are great people. Just fun being in a place where they take so much care of you and their property so you can enjoy your time there.

As avid visitors to the coast of Maine (near where we live) and the coast of California (which we visit each year around Thanksgiving) we're always looking for that right combination of scenery, service, room and breakfast. Well, this one rates at the top. From the minute we arrived until we left five days later, everything was about as close to perfection as one can expect. Sure th the free wireless got cranky once or twice, but that was easily overcome and, what the heck, we were there for vacation and lots of sleep, which we got thanks to crashing waves, moonlit skies right out our window, and dying embers in our wood stove. I'm sure there are places around with more formal service and something we would have liked -- a hot tub -- but if it is simplicity, friendly staff and sheer restfulness in a beautiful location, this is it.

This beautiful ocean view B&B is situated at the north end of the Mendocino Headlands - secluded yet close enough to town to enjoy the ambiance of unique Mendocino and the adjacent coastline. What a perfect spot on the Pacific! The cordial staff, panoramic views of the pounding ocean, coast and sky, the comfortable, finely appointed fireplace rooms and natural gardens with 'surround sound' of the ocean all envelop you with unparalled relaxation and awe for what has to be one of the most magnificent places on earth. Breakfast in the cozy office area offers continuous views of the rugged coastline - or you can take breakfast back to your deck or room to enjoy the view there. It is truly hard to leave the Sea Rock for the day's activities which are numerous in the surrounding area. Abalone divers, sea kayakers, wine lovers, lighthouse viewers and history buffs can all feel the magnitism here. We spent 4 nights and would return in a heartbeat. The view of the sunsets, stars and ocean foam on the sea rock just dazzled us. No photo can capture all the sparkle that is here, but the Sea Rock Inn will grant you shining memories.

Wish we had read the many other reviews more carefully. The location of the inn and views from the big picture windows in our room were superb. Bed comfortable, but room peculiarly laid out. Some nice touches like a small bottle of wine and bathrobes. Staff was friendly and welcoming. For the price, the breakfast should have been superb. Instead it was store-bought (Costco?) fare, hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit. Day 2 was the same breakfast, including a leftover pastry from the previous day. There are many B&Bs in Mendocino. We love the town and the nearby hikes. Next time, we'll stay elsewhere.

This place wasn't bad. The setting was nice and the views of the ocean were excellent. Breakfast was standard for places like this. One hot dish, some fruit, toast, juices, etc. The cottages, at least #4 that we stayed in are really really tiny. Enough room for a queen-sized bed and that's about it. Notice they don't show you interior photos on their web site? There's a reason for that. Little gas fireplace, little bitty front deck with two chairs. The place was spotlessly clean and the staff quite friendly.

But the price we paid (9/07) was $245 a night before tax. Part of that was the "ocean surcharge" common to all places from San Diego to the Canadian border. Part of it was that lodging tends to be expensive in this part of California. But put this place anywhere else and it is maybe a $100 night kind of place. Not memorable and certainly not worth the price. Not sure any other place in this area is a better buy, but this place did not deliver for the money.

We stayed for 4 nights at the Sea Rock in for our anniversary. It was important to us to find a quiet, well appointed, affordable respite, and we looked all up and down the CA coast to find it. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had made the right choice. Our room (#17) had a breathtaking view of the rugged cliffside, was decorated nicely and had the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. We slept to the sounds of the ocean crashing, and woke to beautiful sunny mornings. Every morning, we'd go down to the main office area where a nice little continental breakfast was served (great coffee!!) and we'd talk about our plans for the day. We received great tips on local hiking spots- none of which disappointed. When you stay at the Sea Rock Inn, be sure to get a massage. They have a great staff of very talented therapists they call upon, and it's completely worth it. Dining was very good everywhere we went. For lunch, we really liked Cafe Mendocino in town, where they served very good local foods, albeit the service was a bit slow. But we weren't in a rush to go anywhere. We also enjoyed the Mendocino Hotel for a galss of wine and an appetiizer. We visited quite a few wineries in the region, and found several we really liked. The winemakers were all lovely people and taught us a lot about their wine region.

All in all, we would highly recommend the Sea Rock Inn for a getaway. We will be back to the Inn again, hopefully in the near future. Thanks again to the Sea Rock for a memorable getaway!

My husband and I did a Napa/Mendocino trip for our honeymoon - and we stayed for two days at the Sea Rock Inn. It was a very comfortable, warm, friendly place to stay. The breakfasts were simple but good and the staff is so friendly and helpful. The little cottages are private and clean and have fireplaces - which is nice because the evenings get cool in Mendocino. If you are going to this area be sure to stay there...the ocean is directly in front of the Inn and can be seen from just about every part of the property (you may want to stay in Cabin 1 as it faces the ocean directly). If you are in Mendocino - also be sure to eat at the Moosse Cafe (yes, the spell Moose with 2 s's as it used to be just a dessert place, as in "mousse") They have DELICIOUS meals!!!
