We just returned from a weekend at the Agate Cove Inn. Although the room was comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and the views and proximity to Mendocino were great, the road noise was just too much. We stayed in the Zircon room and it is literally backs right up to from Hwy 1. Although the noise does quiet down at night it is always present and cannot be ignored. The property itself is quite nice but will not return due to the constant road noise.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room as far away from Hwy 1 as possible.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our inn. We are glad that you thought our inn was nice. Mendocino is built on the coast and unfortunately Highway One runs the entire coastline of the state. We are fortunate to be on the ocean side of Highway 1 so the road noise does not drift up to our property but rather we hear the sound of the ocean. We are sorry that some road noise bothered you. We would have been happy to move you to a different room had we known of your sensitivity. Thanks for trying us!

We just returned from a weekend at the Agate Cove Inn. We have been to Mendocino many times but have never stayed at this lovely Inn. The owners were very attentive and a fabulous full breakfast was included in our room fee. There are wonderful views from this property of the rugged coast and you can take it in from your breakfast table. Our room could not have been more comfortable. The feather beds were comfy, the fireplace kept us toasty and there is every kind of amenity would want in your room --- fridge, microwave, luxurious robes, etc. There is a 24/7 "tea room" where you can get coffee/tea and snacks (don't miss the homemade scones). A phone is available in that same room which I really appreciated since ATT with their usual spotty service in travel areas made my cell phone useless. Since I needed to check in with an elderly father while there, I really did appreciate having this available and had not expected it. Also there is Wi-Fi, and the sweetest dog on the premises. Bring your swimsuits since there is an outdoor hot tub off the kitchen deck. A wonderful location as well. Maybe a mile from town, maybe less. Can't wait for another chance to return!

We are thrilled with the 5 Star review you gave us! Thank you for all your kind words and for mentioning some of the room amenities. We do try to anticipate what our guests needs might be and provide accordingly. We are pleased to read that our "guest services" room is being used. Besides the hot drinks and pastry items, the popcorn machine and movies there get a lot of use.
We look forward to your return visit.

Breathtaking site overlooking Headlands Park and the ocean. Our room was very comfortable, with lovely Victorian touches. The bed was sooooo comfortable, my little nap was epic,
Breakfast is delicious and looking out the wall of glass, you feel a part of the sea. Loraine and Roger were very helpful about the area.

Pros: Great ocean views; friendly hosts; tasty breakfast; cute.
Cons: musty smell in the room.

I recommend it for a weekend getaway. Not far from the town. We actually did whale watching using binoculars from the breakfast room...

Spend 2 nights there on recent road trip along North CA coastline up to Seattle. Stayed in the Amber room which has a private balcony, gas fireplace, queen bed, whirlpool bath, shower, and partial view of Mendocino Headlands and coastline. Setting is one of the best in Mendocino for a view of the coast. Within walking distance to Headlines and downtown Mendocino ... although it is a pretty good walk. Most of the rooms are detached units located around the main house, so you have a feeling of privacy, yet you are only a few steps away from the reception area and the lovely breakfast room with an expanse of windows overlooking the coast. Very nice hot breakfast was served each morning. One morning featured eggs Benedict and the second included a special French toast. A variety of pastries, fruit, etc. was available as well. I thought the breakfast was quite good with great views to match. A hot tub, hammock, and a number of Adirondack chairs were located on coastal side of the B & B. Each evening I enjoyed the unrestricted view of the coast and the sunset while sitting in an Adirondack chair with a glass of wine. And speaking of wine, I was given a complimentary bottle of wine upon check-in by simply mentioning a promotional ad on Trip Advisor. The room itself was quite comfortable. I thought the gas fireplace was particularly good. Water was not as hot as I would have liked. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the rooms, service, and views. Photos on website accurately reflect rooms and property. Special kudos to Loraine and Roger as they sought to make guests feel valued, provided useful tips on sightseeing and activities in the Mendocino area, and were very accommodating. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Best views are in Obsidian and Emerald. Amber has partial ocean view.

This was our one night splurge (over $300) on our 2 week road trip. Our room (the Jasper) had many nice touches included wine glasses, complimentary sherry, gas fireplace, a peek-a-boo view of the ocean, and way too many pillows. The gardens were still interesting at this time of year. Arriving in quite heavy fog there was a limited view of the ocean but the next day we were treated with a beautiful sunny morning along with a very enjoyable hot breakfast. (We didn't need lunch that day!) Although this inn is located just outside of town, we're glad we chose to stay here than at one of the inns in town because of the great view from our table at breakfast.

We found ourselves in Mendocino after visiting Napa Valley. Stumbled upon this amazing little B & B. We didn't have a reservation but the receptionist kindly showed us three rooms to choose from and she could not have been nicer. She commented how wonderful the owners were and that we would meet them in the morning. We settled into a room with an amazing view and shared a wonderful bottle of wine watching the sunset. Went out to a great dinner and woke back up to the killer view again. That's where the magic stopped :( We were greeted by a woman that I assumed was the owner with curt information about eggs benedict and some other pastries that were available buffet style. The chef, I am assuming he was Roger that the kind receptionist spoke about the night before, never even said hello. The eggs came out in under 2 minutes and obviously were pre-cooked and hard as a rock. UGH!! Such a disappointment. I got the feeling maybe the owners are tired of "dealing" with guests. It's too bad, because this place would be perfect otherwise. I hope they can learn to make their eggs to order and tap into some of the wonderful brains/hearts of the people visiting. You missed out talking to some really cool people staying with you......and not just us. We met three other couples that were just full of life and fascinating. Best of luck!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view!!

Thank you for the 4 star review. We were sad to read that we missed out on an opportunity to get to know you better. We hope you will give us another try so please call us and we will be happy to give you a free night. The best part of our business is getting to meet interesting people from all over the world. It can get hectic in the morning trying to get hot breakfasts served to 30 people. Sorry the Eggs Benedict were not prepared to your liking. We are happy to accommodate any requests. Most of our guests will send back "runny" eggs so we have been preparing them at 4 minutes.
