We went there for our 2 year anniversary and had a wonderful time. The inn keeper was very pleasant and we were greeted with a great breakfast every morning. The grounds were very nice and the pets friendly. It was very quiet at night and the view of the stars astounding (we live in a city).

Our stay was in the cedar room and it was very comfortable and cozy. We really enjoyed having a fireplace and spending some quiet time snuggling on the bed.

We look forward to a return visit in the future!

As most of the reviews of this B&B were positive, I hate to be sour grapes, but I found the inn keeper to be quite luke-warm in her welcome. After a curt 'hello', she promptly informed us that it would be 'impossible' to have breakfast in our room (as the website mentions you can) - because she felt the weather was too cold for the food to stay warm in transit. We really were not made to feel welcome at all. There were little signs everywhere about what NOT to do on the property: no smoking, close the gate or deer will get in, please leave a gratuity for the staff who cleans the room, just be patient with us if the power goes out, we wont replace your linens unless absolutely necessary etc.
The website also mentioned dog, cats and ducks roaming the grounds but there were no ducks, the dog was away, and the cats were not allowed out of the house. Breakfast was only served during the short window of 8:45-10am. Tricky for early risers like us...I know that individually these are all small things, but all together they contributed to a mediocre experience.
There were some positive things, the gardens were fabulous, the bed was comfy, etc. But with the many other options in the north coast, I would not stay here again...

Management response:Responded September 18, 2005

It has been some time since this review was posted and I just wanted to clairify to a couple of things. My web site does not state that I serve breakfast in the room however, if a request is made I try to accommodate. This particular time the weather was rainy and I felt the breakfast would be compromised because the room was in our cottage, some distance from the kitchen. I serve breakfast at tables for two in the sitting room by the fireplace. As to the animals: the cats have a cat door and come and go as they please. Perhaps because of the rain they didn't venture out. Sage, my dog, is a breeder for Canine Companions and was away at the kennel. By the way I have 8 adorable puppies here as a result of that visit to the kennel. Sadly my ducks were recently killed by a raccoon. I hope to have more sometime in the future.
I hope this explains a few things.

Just perfect. Secluded and very quiet, but with a lot of light. Beautifuly furnished room, a welcome change to those boring conservative hotel rooms. And a very friendly host and staff.

This B & B is the most restful, beautiful haven of peaceful days and nights. Margie, the Innkeeper/Owner is a lovely person who efficiently runs this four-acre farmhouse and barn in the woods just outside of the town of Mendocino. "Murder She Wrote" was filmed in Mendocino. The many flower gardens, the pond, the Farmhouse and of course her wonderful animals were really enjoyed. One can even spot a deer occasionally. We chose the Cedar Room in the Barn because of the character of the room which was shown on her website...and weren't disappointed. The rock fireplace kept us toasty warm on cool evenings and the claw-footed bathtub was great for soothing those tired muscles after walking the Ft Bragg Botanical Gardens, Glass Beach and the town of Mendocino. Breakfasts were wonderful and more than substantial and the coffee so good it started our days off right!

If ever there was a piece of heaven on earth,it is the Mendacino Farmhouse. We stayed in a lovely decorated cabin off to the side of the main house. It is the perfect place for a romantic weekend or just some quiet time to catch your breath & enjoy the pleasures of nature. The gardens outside our private little cabin were lush and so colorful. Margie Kamb, the proprietor, was very personable, but was also very careful to respect our privacy and
oh what a wonderful creator of breakfasts!...different, & one better than the next each morning. The mile ride through the Redwood forest from the B&B to the town of Mendacino was just beautiful. We can't wait to go back.

Having stayed at several B and B's in the Mendocino area we have found them satisfactory but not quite secluded enough for our taste. On the recommendation of a friend we discovered and spent a week at Mendocino Farmhouse which is located in a redwood forest three miles south of the town on the Comptche-Ukiah Road. It is a charming inn with comfortable rooms in the main house and in an annex, each room with a fireplace and
views of the lush gardens that surround the house. Breakfast is served by Margie Kamb, the owner, in the cozy diningroom and the quality and variety of her breakfasts is remarkable. Because of the woods this inn feels like it is in a world of its own, yet it is only six minutes from the bustling town.
Margie's rates are lower than many establishments in the area.
Highly recommended.
In addition, Margie's advice on local restaurants led us to several places we would otherwise have missed, for example Sharon's By the Sea in Fort Bragg, serving some of the finest seafood anywhere.

This was our third visit to the Mendocino area, and each time we have stayed as guests at the Mendocino Farmhouse. Our latest trip was extra special, because it was for our wedding. We arrived in Mendocino on Wednesday, April 6th, and were wed on April 9th, on a beautiful spring day. I can not say enough about the amazing job the innkeeper, Margie Kamb, did for us and our guests during our stay. She was tireless in her preparations, and it showed. She and her staff prepared wonderful breakfasts, groomed the farmhouse's gardens to perfection, cleaned all our rooms (we had 13 ppl total in our party, all stayed at the farmhouse), prepared all floral arrangments for the wedding, rented chairs, and cooked a full post-wedding meal, complete with appetizers.

I think the thing that my bride and I appreciated the most was the fact that Margie really went all out for us. She went all the way to San Francisco to procure flowers for the decorations, and it was clear to us that our wedding was very important to her.

The Mendocino Farmhouse is a great place to stay, whether you're wanting to check out the village of Mendocino, whale watch, or hit the numerous wineries of Mendocino county. Margie has plenty of tourist information, and gives great advice on what to do and see. The rooms are all clean, beautifully decorated, and most importantly, incredibly comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful, and there's even pets there to greet and play with you.
