Although we stayed only one night, we really enjoyed our time in the Pine Room at the Mendocino Farmhouse. The property is lovely and the breakfast was fantastic. The owner was very nice to us and the dogs were friendly. We liked staying out of the center of town. The drive in is short and it's nice to be in the woods. We would stay there again.

The setting was wonderful and the decor was cute. However, the bed was so uncomfortable we were stiff and sore from sleeping in it. In addition, dietary restrictions that we were told would be no problem before we booked were not accomadated. We will not stay there again and recommend against it, particularly for people with any dietary restrictions.

I've just returned from another great stay at the Mendocino Farmhouse. Spring has sprung and this is where you'll find it. Tucked away in the woods, just minutes from the town of Mendocino is this little oasis. This is my first review, though I've stayed at the Farmhouse many times and truly believe this to be a little piece of Heaven on the Mendocino Coast. This is the place to go if you're looking for a quiet and secluded getaway. Comfortable, cozy rooms, beautiful gardens, and a fabulous breakfast; my favorite being Margie's whole grain orange pancakes! Don't be surprised if you see the "resident" deer that graze in the late afternoon. Each room is unique though Elizabeth's is my favorite. Innkeeper Margie has lovingly maintained this home for over 30 years. For advice or directions, just ask. Or better yet just go and discover for yourself and find one of your own favorite treasures.

The good:
The rooms were clean and well decorated with great antique furniture. It was a little far from town, but the gardens once you arrive are beautiful. Breakfast was hot.

The bad.
I have never felt such hostility from an innkeeper before. When we first arrived, we just wanted to get the key and check inn so that we could go to dinner. It was less than 5 min, but after walking through the door, we were yelled at for parking in the wrong spot and were forced to move our car. Then, we were berated for allowing the front door to slam (unintentional). Although all the other rooms got wine and were talking about how great their wine was, when we mentioned whether we would be getting ours, she rudely accused us of misplacing it and then practically threw one at us very rudely when we checked out. She was so unfriendly that there is absolutely no way we would ever return here. She made us feel like second class citizens, and all 3 of us girls felt this way.

We thought the house and rooms were lovely, the innkeeper was not. One of the innkeepers, Bessie, was much nicer.

This email is in response to a posting on Tripadvisor on April 27th of this year regarding a stay at the Farmhouse in May of last year. We are sorry for this persons negative experience with one of our innkeepers and since that time have made appropriate changes. We appreciate the positive comments made about the beauty of the property and comfort of our rooms and hope that this person accepts our invitation to reconsider and come again in the future.

My husband and I had a lovely stay recently at the Mendocino Farmhouse. We opted to stay in one of the two cottages located in the Barn, directly across from the Farmhouse. Both cottages are very cozy and charming. We were able to choose either one since we were the only ones staying that night. We opted for The Pine cottage since it seemed to have more direct light and had a sweet garden right outside the door with an ivy covered nook complete with two chairs and a small table. The Cedar cottage also had a lovely more shaded grassy area surrounded with trees and chairs for relaxing, a tad more private if that's what you are looking for. The gardens around the Farmhouse and the Barn were bursting with beautiful spring flowers which was a visual treat. We enjoyed taking a stroll around the grounds and just savoring the beauty of the property.
We had a very nice full breakfast in the Farmhouse living room in the morning. I was able to peek at the four guest rooms in the Farmhouse and they all looked charming and very comfortable also. The property is about two miles inland from the town of Mendocino and was easy to find (in the daylight). Margie the Innkeeper was welcoming and I had a nice chat with her after breakfast. We are looking forward to staying there again!

We stayed at the Farmhouse in July on our honeymoon, and to this day reminisce about our stay. We were the only guests this night, and stayed in the little cabin across from the main house. Oh, the smell of cedar, and the warmth of the stove! It rained and stormed the night we were there, but this only added to the fun. The cabin was simply decorated, but very comfortable. Sadly, we had to leave for Oregon early the next morning, and missed breakfast. Margie was helpful with our departure time. What we loved most was the complete relaxation we were able to attain in the little cabin in the "woods."

Stayed in the Cedar Room for the weekend and couldn't have been happier. Some really nice things about our stay:

1. The Cedar and Pine Rooms are very private--each has its own secluded outdoor sitting area (ours was visited by three deer in the morning, which was a nice surprise.)
2. The grounds are beautiful--wish we had been there longer than a weekend so as to enjoy them more.
3. Breakfast was delicious.
4. Sage (the dog) was well-behaved and provided great company.
5. Our room was exceptionally clean and comfortable.
6. We had a great big claw-foot bath tub.
7. Margie gave us great suggestions about local restaurants and graciously accomodated our late arrival.
8. We were only minutes away from shops in Mendocino, but felt like we were in the middle of a redwood forest--the peace and quiet was wonderful.

I hope very much to return.
