A wonderful inn. After a less than pleasant experince at another B&B we decided to try again. The Headlands Inn was the right choice!! A well loved historic building with many special touches.... a delicious full breakfast with the added bonus of having it delivered to our room, tea and cookies in the the afternoon and fragrant bath salts for the tub. Mitch and Denise are great. They run an elegant yet welcoming and comfy inn.
Convenient location as well.

Beautiful location, with a delighful garden, and porch. We were warmly welcomed and found the accommodation comfortable and very clean. Guest sitting room was inviting, as were the cookies, nuts and sherry. Use of a refrigerator was very useful too.
We enjoyed the most delightful breakfasts we have ever tasted, delicious and perfectly presented.
We would recommend Headlands without reservation!

We just experienced the most wonderful 6 day escape from the Bay Area to this charming Inn. We were given a warm welcome by out hosts and all the ammenities of the Inn were explained, such as the juices and water in the frig. were complimentary and if we wanted to place items in the frig. it was OK. And we could have a copy of the Chronicle in the morning.
WE stayed in the most affordable room, Annie's room, which was very nice with private bath, but no scenic view. It was on the first floor which was convenient for coming and going without climbing the stairs. The breakfasts are served to your room, but we chose to eat on the front porch 3 mornings because the weather was so beautiful. It also gave us the chance to visit with Rosie, the Innkeeper's beaautiful kitty.
The breakfasts were just about the best we have experienced in many B&B stays., John says they were the best ever. The hot entree changed each day, such as stuffed french toast, quiche, ham rolls & southwestern eggs, as did the home baked muffins/sweet breads. The fruit course included poached pear that was so yummy I could have eaten 2, baked apple, cantalope, mixed fruit cup and sliced oranges. We also had a choice of fruit juices, we chose orange which tasted like fresh squeezed. Our dietary request for no grapefruit was honored as I'm sure any other special request would be.

Afternoon tea time on the 2nd floor parlor was a feast of several flavors of tea and six different types of cookies of which the oatmeal, chocolate chip, peanut butter and snickerdoodles were home made. That was another benefit of Annie's room being next to the kitchen to smell the wonderful aromas of baking cookies.
We also had the opportunity to meet and chat with the other guests during tea time which was interesting and alot of fun.

The owners, Denise and Mitch, were always friendly, helpful and very hospitable so we felt very comfortable in the Inn. Kellie also assisted two days and she has a delightful sense of humor. And Jeffrey looked over things in the afternoon when Denise & Mitch were not there.

Everything in the Inn is in good repair and very clean. All the rooms are beautiful and not too froo-froo so the gentlemen don't feel out of place. The gardens are beautiful with lots of birds and very relaxing for watching the people passing by or reading a book on the lawn.

We will definitely stay here again if we come to Mendocino again. And we thank our hosts for a wonderful birthday celebration for John's 77th.

Only a one night say in Mendocino as we were enroute to So California....a driving vacation following Highways 101 and 1 as far South as Santa Barbara. Wonderful scenery from our beginnings in Washington state! Even rain along the way did not hinder us.
Arriving at the Headlands Inn I knew we would enjoy our stay....midweek specials made it extremely good value and what a comfortable room. Denise and her husband were friendly and helpful...we loved their dinner suggestion. Breafast was super - served to the room with a newspaper is something that my husband and I usually do not do. It was a pleasant stopover on our trip and I highly recommend! A hint...drive down to Little River for your predinner cocktail/wine and enjoy the view at Heritage House!

My wife and I can not wait to return to this most pleasant of Bed and Breakfasts. Highly recommendable - what a really nice place to stay. The positive comments and details others have provided here match our experience. What a hospitable couple Mitch and Denise are to provide such accommodations and service for a fair price- they deserve some kind of award. Hats off to tripadvisor for helping us find the highlight bed and breakfast of the trip too.

My wife and I have traveled all over the nation and have stayed in dozens of historic Inns over the last 22 years. As a History teacher, I have always been fascinated with these beautiful old homes. The Mendocino coast offers many lovely and historic places to stay, but none have the charm and ambience of the Headlands Inn. It takes much more than a gorgeous old home and great service to make a stay special. Mitch and Denise have created an enviroment that makes you feel totally at ease, almost like you actually live there. The service is impeccable without being intrusive. The rooms are graciously appointed and extremely clean. And of course, the delicious breakfast rivals that of any restaurant we've tried in the North Coast. We just returned from a 3 night stay with our close friends. My wife and I stayed in the Bessie Strauss room while our friends stayed across the hall in the Wison room. What an amazing time we had. Eating breakfast while viewing the Ocean and historic Mendocino was such a treat. As the sun went down each evening we enjoyed a crackling fire and marveled at our extraordinary luck in finding this unique place. In all our travels past and those yet to come, I doubt we'll ever find a more perfect place than the Headlands Inn.

From the moment we walked in the door Denise and Mitch were completely delightful. We stayed in the Caspar Cottage and it exceeded our expectations. The breakfast each morning was amazing and the staff was always helpful and available. If you are looking for the perfect romantic getaway...look no longer. Pick up the phone and reserve a room..you won't be disapointed!
