We had a nice two night stay at Headlands Inn. Mendocino has such gorgeous scenery. However, I found the general area not as welcoming to tourists as other parts of California. One of the exceptions to our experience was at the inn, where the innkeepers were so friendly and kind.

Room- Our room was small but really comfortable. We stayed in Annie's Room, which is a great bargain, though do keep in mind the bathroom is not exactly ensuite. A door from the hallway (which locks with a push latch) with a frosted glass window leads into a little vestibule with two doors, one to the bedroom and one to the bathroom. You can't lock the hallway door upon leaving the room, only your bedroom door. This wasn't an issue as there weren't strangers wandering the corridors, but just keep it in mind. If you are looking for more privacy, I wouldn't book this particular room.

Location- The location is wonderful, just a few minutes walk from all the cute shops and restaurants Mendocino has.

Breakfast- This is my kind of B&B in terms of breakfast. It is brought right to your room on a tray. It was a little hard to wait till almost 9 to eat but it was worth it. Coffee, tea, juice, a fruit dish, and either a sweet or savory main course, all served on beautiful china. The innkeepers clearly take a lot of pride in this breakfast and it shows.

Privacy- As with most B&Bs, the walls are very thin. Our second night's sleep was interrupted at about 11:30 PM by a (presumably) drunken couple staying in the room above us. For two straight hours, they had an X-rated screaming fight, complete with what sounded like large pieces of furniture being moved around the room, which was followed by an hour of the LOUDEST snoring I have ever heard in my life. It was really awful. In retrospect, I guess I should have called the innkeepers, though I'm not sure what would have been done, since you sort of sign on for the risk of incorrigible neighbors when you book a B&B.

Overall- Though we will probably not be making a repeat trip to Mendocino, I would recommend this inn if you are in the area. Just pray our rambunctious neighbors don't come back to disturb you!

Thank you havebeachwilltravel, for your comments! We're glad that you enjoyed our quaint inn, but not happy to hear that your second night was interrupted by noisy guests! Had we known, we definitely would have had a chat with them! The room where the noise was coming from is centrally located in the inn, and we're happy that there were no other complaints. With regards to Annie's Room bathroom setup - it's a private bath and not as confusing as it sounds -- we promise!

We stayed at Headlands Inn 7/4 - 7/6, and this was our first time staying in a B&B in Mendocino. Everyone at Headlands was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in Casper Cottage, which is detached from the B&B and has its own entrance, which we liked. The breakfast was delicious, and our cottage was very clean and convenient.

Our only complaint would be the bed. The website indicates that it is a queen-sized bed, but it felt much more like a full-sized bed compared to our queen bed at home. Also, the mattress was very uncomfortable for us. We both kept waking up throughout the night any time the other moved or turned over, because the mattress moved so much.

Thank you Ahart415 for your review, and we're happy that you had a peaceful weekend in Mendocino! The bed in the Casper Cottage is indeed a queen, topped with memory foam and a featherbed -- hum . . . most guests find it comfy! But we're aware that our guests have different comfort levels, and we'd be happy to makeup a bed as preferred. Just let us know!

This was our first stay at a B&B and the Headlands Inn far exceeded our expectations. Denise and Mitch were very warm and inviting and you can tell the pride they have in their establishment. We stayed in the "Barry" room on the 3rd floor and loved the coziness of the room and the ocean view. The breakfasts were absolutely amazing and probably the best we have ever eaten. Falling a sleep to the sound of a crackling fire each night was very romantic; we will definitely be back.

We chose the Caspar Cottage and are glad we did; we preferred that extra bit of privacy. Beautiful large bathroom with jetted tub for two, but the shower over the tub was a bit odd. I ended up rinsing my hair under the tub faucet because the shower was more of a drizzle. Didn't really matter, because it worked and the room and bath were so comfortable. Wood burning fireplace very romantic; might have been nice to have some additional logs, but the room was toasty warm regardless. There is a fridge with complementary water and juice, as well as a microwave. Satellite TV with DVD, no movie channels. Funny how it seemed quaint and old-fashioned to go up the street to rent a DVD "like the old days" as my husband said. The queen bed appeared to have a large lump in the middle when made up, but was so comfortable to sleep on, and the linens were exquisite. My husband would have preferred no canopy on the bed due to partially blocks TV viewing, but you can enjoy your movie and microwave popcorn from the comfy sofa instead. The breakfast is discreetly delivered to your room with a knock on the door and placed inside a special built unit on the rear porch. Hubby would have preferred this earlier, but between 8:45 and 9am worked out just fine. It is a most artful and delicious breakfast! The tray is beautifully presented with fine plates, cups, utensils, linen and fresh flowers; portions are perfect if a bit large for a petite person and include a special entree, varying fruit dishes, fresh muffin and bread, juice, coffee carafe, and hot water carafe for tea if requested. We much preferred eating in our cozy cottage. They took our preferences upon arrival and provided hubby's favorite tea. They have afternoon sherry, tea, and cookie service from 4-7pm in the upstairs sitting area daily. We enjoyed the treats and reviewing the special binder with all the local restaurant menus. Note that there is no off-street parking. It worked out ok, and we always could find a place to park in front of the cottage. If you don't want tree sap on your vehicle, park further down the street. You can walk from the B&B to all the village shops and restaurants, as well as the headlands trail. We had a wonderful time here. The owners and staff are wonderful people; they really want you to enjoy your visit. We are still talking about the lovely breakfast meals, and look forward to returning!

Room Tip: We preferred the privacy of the Caspar Cottage.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Headlands Inn the 4th of July weekend for my birthday. We stayed in the Headlands Hideaway. We had such a wonderful, relaxing stay in this room. It was warm, private and cozy. The owner Mitch and staff members Kelly and Jeffrey were very friendly, warm, and welcoming. We did not want to leave!!!!

We will surely return!!!

Just can't say enough good things about this B&B. The owners, Denise and Mitch were wonderful hosts. Cute place, great room, very clean, and the best breakfast West of the Mississippi. The best food we had in Mendocino was the breakfast at the Headlands Inn. Rained on and off, mostly on for three days, and we had a Great time! We will definitely be back!
Thank You Denise and Mitch,

We stayed at this charming and wonderful place for our 3rd anniversary and our 1st visit to Mendocino/Fort Bragg area. We chose Casper cottage detached from the main house. The indoor jetted spa tub was the main reason we chose it and it turned out to be an amazing experience.

We were greeted nicely by Mitch who helped us check in and understand all the minute details of the cottage and the guest area.

Location wise, it is 5 min walk from the Headland state park and couple of trails which give you the amazing views of the pacific and 2 min walk from what we thought is the best restaurant in Mendocino - Cafe Beaujolais. and many other restaurants. It is also just 2 min drive from the Big River trail and beach area. Best views of Mendocino are just minutes away from this location. There are also these cafes, shops, and art centers etc just 5-10 min walk away. 10 min drive to Fort Bragg.

What we enjoyed the most in this B&B was the delicious and humongous breakfast that they serve in your room (one of the rooms is not served breakfast). The breakfast is prepared fresh daily by Denise and other cook. It is different each day combined with fresh fruits and juices to choose from. Undoubtedly, we finished every bit of the entire breakfast :)

The cottage also had a fireplace. Parking is right outside the cottage.
Special thanks to Denise as I had left a shirt in the closet and she sent it over by mail.

Room Tip: Choose Casper cottage which has a jetted spa tub and more privacy but it doesnt have any ocean views...
