Second time here, and won't be the last. Great feather bed. Large room. We were on the top floor facing the ocean.Owners were very helpful. Breakfast was great. When we left ( early morning) they prepared a "to go bag" of breakfast goodies. Not good if you are on a diet.
We will be back.

Room Tip: top floor have the better view, and the inside ceiling has a lot of angles to bump your head. Also n...

Headlands Inn is the perfect place to get away for the weekend if you're visiting Jessica Fletcher of Murder She Wrote country. Yep, Mendocino is the stage of the New Hampshire town. Visit the Blair House, which is the her cottage in the TV series. After a visit in Mendocino, you almost want to rush home and watch the TV series again.

I took the room on the first floor with its own bathroom.I thought it would be a little nosy but to my surprise, the room was quiet and very comfy. It's lovely B&B and well cared for. They serve a very large breakfast, one day an omelette, the other day an egg souffle, served with fruit salad, small pound cake, coffee or tea of your choice. It's a perfect stop while exploring the beautiful Northern California coast. The inn is right in town so walking around is easy and comfortable. Street parking was easy as well. The town has some great eateries to explore, but unfortunately, they close very early in Mendocino.

We were on our way from SFO to the Avenue of Giants at HWY 101 via the scenic HWY 1 on the coast and stopped at Mendocino headlands. We had not booked any accomodation as it wasnt
peak season and will just stop as and when we found a nice place. We toured around the Mendocino headlands area and on one of the main streets, 2 B&B caught our eyes.
They were Headlands Inn and the Blue Door, opposite each other. From this main road
of theses B&B, we could see the white waves crashing onto the beach rocks some 500 metres away. The Blue door looks more impressive and newer ( maybe the grass is greener syndrome)
but since we were in the car on this side of the main road, we pulled up to check out Headlands Inn. Its a very cosy B&B and the lady owner showed us around and we settled on Annie's room
at the end of the hall on the ground floor without going to the Blue Door B&B.
Annies room is nice and the bed was comfy for us (we are not big built) with the mattress so puffed up reminding me of the princess and the pea story. The sheets and pillows were great.
Breakfast was very good. So It was literally an excellent Bed and Breakfast for us.
We appreciate the tips given by the lady owner who gave us options as to where to eat nearby
walking distance and most of all her tip on visiting the Avenue of the Giants.
If you dont have the time, you need not drive through the 31 miles of this Avenue but take the
entrance at Myers Flat as that area is the heart of the concentration of the giant redwood trees.
Also, she gave us a detailed map of the Aveune of the giants and if not we would have probably
missed the Founder's Tree and the Dyerville giant fallen tree. The actual signs on the road for
these were not to be seen and If we did not have the detailed map to point out its location, we would have definitely missed these sights. From the car park at founders tree, there is a very
beautiful walking trail ( about 10-15 mins slow walk) covering these highlights.
The experience was awsome like the redwood trees.
Remember to get a detailed map if visiting Avenue of the Giants.
Oh Yes, we paid USD$99 for Annies room, $107 after tax...its worth it as most motels
and inns along HWY 1 near Mendocino advertised $50-60 per night and not sure if it included breakfast.

We just returned from our stay at the Headlands Inn Bed & Breakfast. We've stayed there annually for the past five years and I feel that I truly must share how great this place is! The inn is well maintained and our room is always spotless. It's tastefully decorated (not frilly or fru-fru like some B & B's). Every time we arrive, our room feels so welcoming that it's almost like "coming home." Our favorite room is the Bessie Strauss. It's full of light, very spacious, and has beautiful views from every window. We've also stayed in the John Barry and the Wilson room and they are also very nice with pretty views. The breakfasts at this inn are fantastic. The beautifully prepared breakfast tray with fresh flowers and a newspaper is brought to your room. A gentle knock announces it's arrival. We park our car at The Headlands Inn and we walk to all of the restaurants and shops. The WIFI works perfectly. It's got it all.....we wouldn't think of staying any place else in Mendocino.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are very nice at this inn, however it is an old house and so be aware that you may...

We booked Annie's Room as it was the only one left when we originally made reservations, and from reviews this sounded like a lovely B&B. Annie's Room had a decent size private bath, but the room itself was pretty small. The bed was not that comfortable and it was impossible to move in the bed without it squeaking or hitting the wall. We ended up putting a towel between the headboard and the wall so it wouldn't thump whenever we moved in the bed.

Annie's Room is on the first floor, right next to the kitchen and close to the Inn's entrance so you can hear a bit of noise from both those areas. You can also hear people walking around in the room above you, as well as their conversation! The sitting area on second floor is a nice place to enjoy a cup of tea - there are a number of board games and a TV and it is available for all house guests. While we were there no one used it after about 7PM so we heard no noise from that area. Fortunately during our stay the guests all were cognizant of being in an older home without much soundproofing and kept their noise levels down.

The Inn does not have a specific parking lot, but we did not have trouble finding spaces on the street right in front of the Inn.

Breakfast is really very nice - warm and delicious, but unfortunately served around 9AM. That is about the latest we've ever had breakfast at home or at an Inn, and we were headed out of town that morning so it would have been nice to have been able to eat a bit earlier so we could get on the road earlier.

The interaction we had with the Innkeepers was pleasant. The breakfast was lovely. The Inn is conveniently located so you can walk to just about anywhere in town. But all in all this stay for us just didn't rank a full "excellent" rating. I think we would stay elsewhere next time we return to Mendocino.

Room Tip: Would recommend getting a room on upper floor because, particularly if you are in Annie's Room...

I can't say enough good things about the Headlands Inn. The people who run it are incredibly nice and knowledgable of the town. I wanted to make reservations at a particular restaurant while there for our 10th anniversary, but I couldn't remember the name. From description alone the Headlands Inn was able to identify the restaurant and knew that they were having an event that week so I could schedule our trip around it. They even made the reservation for us.

When we arrived there was a complementary bottle of wine in our room, tea and cookies in the in the afternoon and sherry available all day in the sitting area, along with board games and puzzles. Every room has a wood-burning fireplace set up and ready to light (with fail-safe instructions for those of us less camping-savvy) as well as extra wood and all the supplies to start another fire, should you want one in the morning as well.

The stand-out finish to our stay was definitely the home-made breakfast platter served on fine china in the privacy of our own room with a view of the English garden and a copy of a San Francisco newspaper. The vegetarian options are delicious (I've had 2 breakfasts there and both were fantastic) and the presentation is immaculate. There is no better place in California to be pampered!

Room Tip: The Bessie Strauss Suite is the best hands down for decore, layout and view.

My girlfriend and I wanted to find something to do for a one night get-a-way. She decided to plan it and she hit a home run with the Headlands Inn! I told her my number one issues were cleanliness and service and she did great on both counts. We arrived earlier than check in time and wanted to see what the place was like. Denise let us in, gave us a full tour, and then actually was able to let us check in - a nice treat. We spent the day walking Mendocino, eating wonderful chocolates, taking a million pictures of the view and generally having a good time. When we finally retired to our room - every part of which was immaculately cleaned - we lit the fire in the fire place and enjoyed a long restful night in the plush featherbed... it was like sleeping on a cloud!! During the night, the town of Mendocino suffered a full power outage and somehow - Denise and Mitch managed to serve (to our door) hot delicious coffee and a wonderful breakfast - RIGHT ON TIME!! I am already looking forward to going back... The room was clean; home smelled wonderful, service excellent, food amazing, private restroom, lovely fireplace - spectacular bed! You WON'T be sorry.

Room Tip: The Stofle room was super!
