“A must for a good hike!”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

Another incredible place to hike. You can see a variety of ecological environments here. We preferred the headlands. There is some serious up and down once you head inland. It is not for the faint of heart.

“Nature exposed”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

There are two wonderful trails which "expose" mother nature in northern California. The first takes you around the headlands and then the longer 5 mile trail gives a very informative look (pick up the free guide at the trail head) at the different "ecologies" that rise up from the coast including the very rare "pygmy forest". Go...you won't be disappointed.

“Fresh Air..”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

Walking into the Pacific Ocean, where truly fresh air is born, can not be duplicated anywhere else on this planet.
Always be aware of the power of the Pacific.

“Go through redwoods and to pygmy forest”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

This easy/moderate hike is a perfect day hike, easily accomplished in 2-3 hours, even if you dally. At the trail head, there is an interpretive guide that you should take. The guide explains the different ecological environs, and specific trees and plants with great detail. The changes in fauna was amazing and we even saw a coyote.

“Safe waves - Icy cold water - Barking Sands”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

The Jug Handle beach is KID-FRIENDLY, sparsely visited, with an inlet well stocked with dry sand that "barks" as you walk barefoot. The water is safe and has a submerged sandbar that allowed being out a hundred feet or more but still only up to your waist. Warning, the water is icy cold and a wet suit is advised. Even so, my grankids swam and body surfed on that sand bar for a couple hours until their lips turned purple. I had to almost drag them away from their fun just to warm them up. "But it is (chatter shiver chatter) so much (chatter chatter shiver) fun!"
