“Good hotel / usual HI Express standard”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

We stayed here for two nights as a base for seeing the redwood forests to the north. This is a very good location for this purpose vs staying in Eureka due to quick access to the highway. The room was quiet and the king bed was comfortable. Breakfast was the standard stuff / nothing special. We noticed a number of people lounging around the seats in the lobby area near the fireplace all with their laptops, hanging around there for several hours each afternoon/evening. We thought this was very inconsiderate and a bit of an eyesore (papers, laptops, food, drinks and people strewn all over). Odd that the hotel would allow this. Maybe people did that because the wifi was not very strong in the rooms? Not the best but not the worst HI Express we've stayed at. There are some decent restaurants in McKinleyville that we tried: more in nearby Arcata that we didn't try (was too foggy when we were there to bother driving very much at night).

I spend many nights each year in hotels up and down the Northern Californa Coast. This is one of the better hotels for business travel. It is easily accessed by Hwy 101 or the Eureka-Arcata Airport. In fact, it is walking distance from the ACV airport. Although it is a straight shot down Hwy 101 to either town, it is a bit removed from both. So, location is not perfect if you are working in either Eureka or Arcata. Shuttle service is available and quickly responsive to transportation needs. Please Note: If you need to rent a car at the airport--there are several options, but many close in the early afternoon!! The staff have been consistently professional, friendly and helpful with me, and the service is a strong point for this property. The full hot breakfast is good and consistent, though relatively unchanging if you have a long stay. The rooms are comfortably large enough and well-appointed, and the cost is quite reasonable. There are three places I stay in Humboldt County, this is definitely an option for me.

Room Tip: The west side, away from the airport can be a bit more quiet and catch some nice evening light when...

Arrived here with 2 nights pre-paid on our trip down the coast from Seattle to LA. Platinum Priority Club members. After our drive here from Bandon, OR, we felt like maybe we should have only booked one night here then headed down to Napa Valley instead on our way to San Fran. Asked at the front desk if we could cancel the second night. The young woman at the desk was very nice about it and said she'd check with her supervisor. In the meantime, she handed us a huge guide to all the things there were to do here in Humboldt County, and we went to check out our room. It was large and very nice. We ended up being able to get a refund for the second night if we wanted to leave, but we decided there was more we wanted to see in this area, so spent the second night anyway since we've been to Napa before but hadn't seen this part of CA. There really is a lot to see and do!

We stayed after a long drive. We didn't book ahead and unfortunately didn't look at the rooms ahead of time. The woman at the front desk was lovely. However the rooms were just not at all clean. The carpet was filthy and the room smelled. The breakfast area in the morning was disgusting. The garbage was overflowing and the counters had food everywhere. I would not recommend at all!

The king suite we stayed in was roomy and nicely furnished. Overall the hotel is nice and clean, except for the carpets and some of the wooden furniture/cabinets. The carpet in the main hallway leading to our room (#135) and the carpet in the room could use a good cleaning. A little polish/stain would do wonders to re-condition some of the scratched and dinged wooden furniture and the cabinets in the bathroom.

We stayed here for 4 nights in October 2013. this is probably one of the nicest, homey Holiday Inn's I have ever stayed at. It has a very nice lodge feel. We thought the price was fantastic and included a free little breakfast. The rooms were clean and big. And included a microwave and very large mini-fridge, as there's not much around it's a very nice touch. The location is kind of in the sticks but I assume you are staying in Humboldt because you want to be in the sticks! You are close to Trinidad, Blue Lake, Patrick's point, and even a casino or two if you get tired of hanging out with the trees.
They have an indoor heated pool and our 3 year old loved going in it about twice a day. There was a fire in the lobby/central area with a nice sitting room where you could have coffee or tea.
It is right next to the Arcata airport but that airport is so small you blink and you miss it. I did not hear one plane. Staff was super friendly. We will definitely stay here again.

This hotel is close to the Redwood national park in California. The hotel is also close to Patricks Point state park. We loved this hotel for the location. It is very clean hotel with friendly staff. The price includes nice breakfast starting from 4 AM ( this is unusual. I have not seen breakfast served that early).
Both Patrick Point state Park and Moonstone beach are a must visit.
