“Out of the way, but everybody knows how to find it!”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

We looked this place up online while searching for restaurants near Point Reyes. We couldn't make reservations, because we didn't know what time we'd be done hiking, but we chanced it anyway. This is a place 30 minutes up Hwy 1 north from Point Reyes. They have valet only - but very efficient. There was 1 1/2 hour wait for a table without reservations on a Saturday, but they suggested we order dinner from the bar, which we did, and it was just fine - we still felt welcome (not like we committed a crime for not making reservations). It was very busy, VERY nice atmosphere right on Tamales Bay with a pier out back to walk on after dinner. They also have cottages for rent. We had appetizer crab mac n cheese - unbelievable - could have been a meal! Ordered halibut and the salmon specials for that night - both tasted out of this world! Perfect amount of food, excellent presentation. I also had an irish coffee- delicious! Friendly and fast service, but no one bustles you - prices are what you would expect, expensive, but not overpriced. This is definitely a romantic, or family, or couple, or celebration spot - they fit it all. We wore our hiking clothes (long pants, long shirts) and fit in fine.

“Good Food, Great View, Excellent Service - careless valet”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

We recently had lunch at Nick's Cove and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The food was fabulous: our party of 8 shared the Premium Oyster Platter and Baked Oyster Mornay. My husband and I shared a Fried Oyster Po' Boy (delicious) and an order of some of the best fries we've ever eaten. Others in our group ordered White Prawn Enchiladas and Dungeness Crab Mac and Cheese, and Truffled Garlic Fries - which were also crowd pleasers (although I actually liked our plain fries better). For the kids in the group the kitchen prepared pasta with a little butter and cheese.

The service was perfect. The waitstaff was attentive and thoughtful, making sure our water glasses were full and that our party had everything we needed.

The only problem we had (and it really bothered us), was with the valet parking. We were required to leave our car with a valet in front of the restaurant, which is right on Highway 1. About 10 - 15 minutes after entering the restaurant, my husband went back outside to get his glasses out of the car and found our fairly expensive automobile unlocked, with the window open and the key in the ignition. He spoke with the attendant, who told him they were busy and hadn't had a chance to park and secure it yet.

I will go back to Nick's Cove, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on my car if we have to valet park.

“Best BBQ Oysters”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

My wife and i had a wonderful meal at Nick's Cove recently. Our waiter was a little off his mark and forgot one of our dishes, but not to worry, we ordered another serving of there BBQ oysters which was the best item that we had. The fish dishes were very good but nothing stood out l;ike the oysters. It's worth a trip out to the coast just for the oysters.

“Enjoyable Seafood”
Reviewed March 9, 2013

We stayed at Nick's Cove for one night with another couple and had a lovely dinner here. The barbecued oysters are wonderful, the chowder hearty, and the sand-dabs delicious. If possible, eat in the warm and comfortable bar, decorated throughout with stuffed animal heads. The service was excellent as was the view of the bay through the windows. The restaurant sources ingredients from local ranches, farms, and fisheries. We will definitely return for dinner on our next visit to Nick’s.

“Pricey but really good food”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Sunset dinner on Tomales bay. Outstanding! The food, particularly the clam chowder, was exquisite. Portions are small, so if you want to leave full, plan on ordering appetizers and an entree. Service (our waiter Matthew) was amazing!
