Oysters, freshly baked bread, and wine - all local to the area and delicious. Sitting outside next to the water, natural beauty and relaxation, cheerful conversation with others marveling at this long established place that remains fresh and a discovery!

We visited the place on 4/20 Saturday and it was a sunny beautiful day. The place was packed and you need to wait for half hours to get a table. But you can make a reservation to get a picnic table if you have more people. We loved their boat cafe for both raw oysters and BBQ oysters. They have local farm bread, cheese and arugula salad too.

I have been to this place a dozen times in the past few years but it was the worst drop-off for a good place I have experienced in years. After 1.5 hour drive north to this place...it was packed with tourists which is fine but they really are ripping off the ALL customers now. The prices have been jacked up 20% s it is now $2.50 an oyster...more than many places in SF! Worst yet, this is the 4th consecutive time that they were serving Hood Canals from WA State! Really? We drive up the coast to eat days old WA oysters that lacked any freshness and no juice in the shells??? They used to have Napa's Fatted Calf cured meats and now it is some commercial product from Texas...the cheeses and bread (use to be Brickmaiden) are now just whole foods varietals. This place have gone the way of money over pride. When asked why no local oysters....they actually admitted they can get more money from their Ferry Building restaurant!!! THEY HAVE SOLD OUT AND DO NOT GO THERE!

We were so enamoured by the Hog Island Oyster bar in the Ferry Terminal that we decided to make the drive down through Point Reyes to visit the farm itself!
The drive was loongggg for us, coming out of Napa, and although it was scenic at times, it was a long trip that ended with an average visit to the farm. The farm is a cute little place, but there wasn't much to see other than a barn like structure with a few oyster pools and a place to buy some oysters. Maybe I missed all the other stuff, probably because it wasn't a weekend, but it was quiet there. Instead we picked up a bag of oysters, a shucker, and headed back home to enjoy our oysters.

Drove out to Marshall via Petaluma. Gorgeous day, lovely drive. Ended up at this wonderful estuary side restaurant complete with cool music playing, hipster couples enjoying their arugula salads and bbq-ing their sausages and oysters. We just ordered a plate of 12 oysters. A bit pricey and no horseradish but they were wonderful with the right amount of citrus. Super fresh and delightfully aromatic. The day was perfect; I wonder what a foggy day would be like . What a fun place. Next time we'll plan to bring people and do the bbq/picnic experience. You have to reserve the table to get the bbq pit and table.
