Just when I thought small-town life couldn’t get any more pleasant, I walked across the road to the recently opened Mariposa branch of the Mennonite-run Jantz Bakery.
Spotlessly clean, friendly service, an assortment of baked goods that look too good to eat, plus breakfast and lunch dishes. Was looking for a light lunch, and the sandwich menu looked good but a bit pricey…though the sandwiches do come with a side and a cookie. I think the general idea is to sell takeout to be used as a full picnic meal. That said, I had a great experience with a small bowl of their cheeseburger chowder (on menu T-W, clam chowder Th-F; these soups are not yet on their online menu.) For a small extra fee, the soups will come with rolls—definitely worth going for, great to dip in the soup. Noticed several slightly-old pastries on the 25% discount shelf—the blueberry muffin I took for later in the day was absolutely perfect, not in the least stale.
Though the web site implies that this is a pure take-out establishment, they do have a small number of seats, indoor and out. Really looking forward to my next visit!
