Just when I thought small-town life couldn’t get any more pleasant, I walked across the road to the recently opened Mariposa branch of the Mennonite-run Jantz Bakery.
Spotlessly clean, friendly service, an assortment of baked goods that look too good to eat, plus breakfast and lunch dishes. Was looking for a light lunch, and the sandwich menu looked good but a bit pricey…though the sandwiches do come with a side and a cookie. I think the general idea is to sell takeout to be used as a full picnic meal. That said, I had a great experience with a small bowl of their cheeseburger chowder (on menu T-W, clam chowder Th-F; these soups are not yet on their online menu.) For a small extra fee, the soups will come with rolls—definitely worth going for, great to dip in the soup. Noticed several slightly-old pastries on the 25% discount shelf—the blueberry muffin I took for later in the day was absolutely perfect, not in the least stale.
Though the web site implies that this is a pure take-out establishment, they do have a small number of seats, indoor and out. Really looking forward to my next visit!

The lunch special is absolutely amazing. The sandwiches are very fresh, packed full of meat and will definitely fill you up. The sides are equally good and their cookies can't be beat. Their other pastries are absolutely amazing.

This is a must for anyone travelling to Mariposa. We were headed back to Yosemite and decided to get a pastry for our mid morning treat. This place had so many good things it was hard to limit the purchase. I decided to get a sandwich on their homemade sandwich roll, triple berry pie for dessert and a blueberry pastry for coffee. All of it was outstanding. They had so many kinds of pie it was hard to choose. The same for the pastries. We bought the box lunch which included a fruit bowl of very good fruit, sandwich (enough for both of us) and one of six kinds of cookies. We chose chocolate chocolate chip. Yum! I noticed they had some outside seating and served some breakfast items such as biscuits and gravy. This place is a real treat and everyone visiting Mariposa must go there! Very nice people working there as well, and very reasonable prices.
