“Wonderful stay, highly recommended!”

Two friends and I stayed here in August 2012 and we had a lovely visit. The owner greeted us warmly and made us feel at home. Amenities include a stocked kitchen, wifi, comfortable sitting rooms, peaceful grounds and a hearty breakfast. My friends and I fit comfortably in the Forest Retreat room (I was in the rollaway bed which was adequate for one night's sleep) and we all enjoyed the large bathroom. We only wished we could have stayed longer but we were on our way to Yosemite (note that the B&B is about an hour from the park).

This place is a good option but in my opinion is undeserving of a near-perfect five-star rating on TripAdvisor. The house is pretty nice in a very isolated area. It is a one-hour drive to either the western or southern entrance to Yosemite, and 20 minutes from the small town of Mariposa. Guests might feel uncomfortable driving in the dark around the area due to unfamiliar backcountry roads - we tried to avoid doing it while we were there.

The bed was OK and there was a flat screen TV in the room. The bathroom looked like it needed some updating - the shower door was broken and the shower head was really low (I'm not quite 6'0" and it was at my chin).

The best part about this B&B is you get free reign over the food. We made sandwiches each day to take to the park and brought some snacks as well. One night we made a very simple dinner.

Breakfast is served at 8:30 typically. We were trying to get an early start because of the distance to the park, so Lizzie offered to make breakfast at 8, which was great. The food was decent - we had a breakfast sandwich one day and eggs and hash browns the next.

Highland House is everything a B&B should be! The house and grounds are beautiful, located in a secluded, wooded area. We stayed in the Forest Retreat room, which was huge, with an extremely comfortable king-size bed, and an enormous walk-in shower. The towels and rugs were changed every day. The soap and lotion are exclusive to this property and smell wonderful. Breakfasts were large, hearty and delicious, but also included lighter options of delicious fresh fruit and yogurt. They cater to dietary needs, so if you have food allergies or require a gluten-free meal, they are completely accommodating. The entire house is at your disposal - computer, TV, workout equipment, pool table, books, washer and dryer, pantry, etc. You can cook your own meals, if you wish. Every morning, they provide ziploc baggies and snacks that you can take with you - nuts, trail mix, fresh baked goods, snack mix. Nora made a delicious peach cobbler and chocolate chip cookies during our visit. The drive to Yosemite takes 45 minutes to an hour (either the west entrance or the south), but it's worth it to stay in this beautiful property. Mike, Nora and Lizzie were wonderful. Thank you for a great stay!

We stayed here 3 nights during our trip in Yosemite Park.
Although it was 45 min. from the park, that was a great place to be.
Our hosts Michael,Lizzie and Nora gave us the best hospitality they can give.
We feel like at home.
A few things made it a best place to return like : free drinks, tea, coffee, snacks,
the possibility of making laundry and use a dryer, very good breakfast and of course
the honey-suckers.

Room Tip: All room are o.k.

We stayed here one night during an extended visit to Yosemite. It is a fairly convenient drive to the park, and offers tons more charm than staying in Mariposa. We had the complete run of the place and there was ample access to snacks, beverages, etc. Ours was a one night stay, and I would recommend more than that to get a more complete and satisfying experience. The rooms had their own baths, and were a good size. The host met us at the door, welcomed us, and showed us all that was available. When we explained that we would be leaving in the morning before breakfast, he made sure to point out that we could help ourselves to the snacks and fruit to use the next day, and left out cereal, dishes, and silverware for our use the next morning. (The Costco microwave bacon was great.) There were dozens of hummingbirds at the feeder at times, and I was greeted by a flock of wild turkeys when I started loading up the car the next day. My only complaint was that breakfast was served at 8:30, which is a bit late if you want to have a full day in Yosemite. Like I previously mentioned, we were able to make our own breakfast before we left, but perhaps having something set aside in the refrigerator to warm up for the guests who get up and out early and make their preference known in advance would be in order.

This is a very nice B&B. The people who run it are exceptional. We really had a good time there. It is close to Yosemite. It's about 40 to 45 miles away. The Highland House had everything we needed. They are very hospitable. You could help yourself to food and beverages. It is a very clean, cozy, make-yourself-at-home B&B. Mike, the owner, is a very nice guy. I wished we had more time to spend, but he was on his way to Fresno as we we're coming back from Yosemite. The ladies who work there Lizzy, and Nora, are very nice and accommodating. We bought steaks in town (Mariposa), and grilled them on the grill at the B&B. This is a seasonal B&B. We hope that we will return one day on another journey. Thank you to Lizzy, Nora, and Mike for such a wonderful stay!

Selected in advance through TripAdvisor. Pity we only used this as a launch pad for Yosemite. Manageable 15 mins from main road means peace and quiet in the woods. Entertained by hummingbirds. Very hospitable trusting generous (fruit, soft drinks, snacks for the car) pool room, guest lounge, exceptional value. Clean rooms, comfy bedding. NB stairs
