Poppy Hill Bed and Breakfast is delightful. The owner couldn't be nicer. She was friendly without being intrusive and a great hostess. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. There were fresh flowers in our room, a nice touch. The rooms are decorated with antique pieces which impart a sense of place nicely. After all, this was mining country in the 1800s, I believe.

The breakfasts were fabulous. Our hostess set a beautiful table: with crystal and lovely table settings. We enjoyed breakfasts ranging from croissant french toast to eggs picante, an egg dish with cheddar cheese and picante sauce. There was a lovely spacious living room to relax in as well as a front porch. The hallway outside our room upstairs had a dorm sized refrigerator with cold drinks. There was a lovely spacious living room to relax in as well as a front porch.

Although it was surely more work for her, Mrs. Kirn asked what time we would like breakfast. Most bed and breakfasts TELL you when they are going to serve you breakfast. And they serve everyone at once because it is easier for them- they get it over with all at once. We were given a window of time to choose when we would like to eat. This was also nice because many people avoid bed and breakfasts due to the fact that they must dine with strangers. My husband and I were able to enjoy a lovely and peaceful breakfast.

The drive is a little further out but we found it worth it to enjoy this level of comfort. We also found Mariposa to be a nice little town with a good Mexican restaurant where we enjoyed many meals.

My wife and I stayed at the Poppy Hill in May as part of a California road trip. Our day and efforts to get there had not gone to plan (due to road closures trying to get across the Sierra Nevada) However the welcome and hospitality we received from Mary-Ellen was just perfect. Lovely setting, great host and soothing relaxing accommodation from the sitting room by the fire through to the comfy bedrooms. We woundn't hesitate in staying again should we ever make it back to the Yosemite.

During a recent trip in May to Yosemite, we were fortunate to spend two nights at the Poppy Hill B & B. It was a highlight of our vacation. Mary Ellen immediately made us feel welcomed with a chance to settle in a beautifully furnished room and enjoy a relaxing glass of wine on the front deck. She is an amazing host and so helpful. For instance, Mary Ellen had made dinner reservations at an excellent restaurant in Mariposa the first night. We called her from the road to let her know that we were running late. She contacted the restaurant and arranged a later time for us. The inn is very easy to locate and in a beautiful country setting. Mary Ellen has a wealth of information about Yosemite and willingly shares wonderful stories about her time spent working there. She even knew Ansel Adams. The breakfasts were awesome and a great time to have interesting conversations with the other guests. We highly recommend this B & B to other travelers and would certainly visit there again.

Poppy Hill was the nicest place to stay! So much nicer than the local hotels. Very quite and peaceful, beautiful location. We found that Yosemite is quite a busy place for tourists and it was nice to come back to the B & B and relax on one of the decks / porches.
It was roughly 30 - 40 min into the park from there and a bit shorter into Mariposa for dinner and shopping.
The food at Poppy Hill was exceptional! And there were wonderful homemade cookies waiting for us when we returned the first evening.
A beautiful home and location with a very nice proprietor. We really enjoyed our stay. If you're going to spend some time in Yosemite... Poppy Hill is a nice place to relax away from the rush of touists when the day is done.

If you are looking for a nice out of the way Bed and Breakfast when visiting Yosemite National Park, I recommend the Poppy Hill Bed & Breakfast in Mariposa on Hwy CA-140. Mary Ellen is the proprietor of the Poppy Hill Bead & Breakfast. Poppy Hill has great accommodations for everyone.

There are three rooms upstairs and one room on the main floor. We stayed in the poppy room located on the second floor. Our room faced east overlooking the little pond. If you like the bright early morning sun in your window, then I would stay in the poppy room. The poppy room has a very comfortable double bed, spacious bathroom and little sitting room.

We stayed for two nights. Both mornings we had awesome breakfasts. On Saturday morning Mary Ellen fixed her now famous croissant French toast. The next morning we were treated to an apple pancake puff.

We loved staying at Poppy Hill B&B and look forward to visiting there again.
