“Briliant Bed and Breakfast”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

We stayed four days at Yosemite Bed and Breakfast, and it was the most fantastic stay one can imagine.
Joy and Clay - the hosts - made a delicious breakfast, served in there private house.
Nothing to complain - just go there - give it a try...

The whole spirit of the place and its owners is amazing. The hotel is nested in a beautiful spot in the forest near Mariposa, deer would pass by and come right to the terrace just a few yards from the people.

The rooms are more like great comfortable rooms of a relative your are visiting for a couple of days, rather than a standard hotel room. Comfort is everywhere and in everything, starting from the candy and coffee in the room, the floor, the cozy bed, the great bathroom, the pool... The whole experience is more like visiting your loving aunt and uncle, rather than going to a B'n'B place.

The breakfast that Joy fixed for us was amazing and Clay was careful to ask us about our planned route through Yosemite and checked for closed roads due to the ongoing forest fires. This was very important because the Tonga road was closed heading east just the last day, so we knew in advance we had to reroute. He was even kind enough to print us map and directions from google maps.

Words simply cannot describe this establishment, one just has to stay there to see with own eyes. It's a must if you are going to/from Yosemite or simply touring around the Sierra Nevada.

Room Tip: All rooms are great.

This was one of the best B&Bs I have ever experienced. The welcome we received when we were pulling in was so warm. The room clean, spacious and well equipped for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was tasty and filling, and a comfortable setting for wonderful conversation with our fellow travelers. The back porch was fantastic for star-gazing; we had the added benefit of Perseid Meteors. While we didn't use the pool it was clean and inviting. If we had more time I think we would have spent a day of relaxation in the pleasant surrounds.

Room Tip: We had a 2 room suite that could hold 4, very comfortably.

This place is delightful. We are a family of 5 and stayed in the 'two bedroomed cottage' which was very spacious with a great sofa bed and full kitchen facilities. It is tranquil, has stunning views and is owned by a very welcoming couple . Breakfast is great, home cooked food, and there is a pool! We wish we had had longer. The entrance to the Yosemite Valley is approx 40 mins drive away but it is a beautiful drive. Highly recommend it.

In this case, as in any case, you should previously be aware of the accommodation you want, then to establish if if the one you are considering will fit or not to your wishes.
For example, if you want to stay in the center of Mariposa - one of the gateways to Yosemite National Park - and then go out at night to walk in this small but interesting town, then this lonely B&B isn't the optimum.
But if you agree to have a very different experience from that prevailing in California for mid-level hotels (ie, the experience of a motel or similar) then this accommodation is ideal.
The B & B is in fact located in a rural region not depopulated at all, but with very sparse settlement, in the charming, wild, wooded hills surrounding Mariposa.
Like many other reviewers have written, this position - and the care of the owners in feeding them - mean that you can enjoy of the sight of flocks of hummingbirds, of some deer, of wild turkeys, and of other birds that we have not been able to identify (but a booklet available in the rooms helps to do so). Experience, therefore, peculiar, and that will be long remembered.
Being five people, we booked the "2 bedrooms cottage": each room with a "Queen" bed (a fifth bed is obtainable by opening the sofa bed in the living room). The rooms are furnished with very good taste, each has its own bathroom: besides there is a very broad kitchen-living room, and a large veranda overlooking the valley.
The cottage is not presented (slightly less than 550 euro, fully paid in advance, for two nights), but it is inclusive of a full breakfast (prepared and served personally by the extremely kind hosts). Moreover, the kitchen fully equipped - there is also a barbecue on the veranda - allows you to prepare the other meals (the dinner, in practice, since it is assumed that at lunchtime customers are hiking around).
With this background, we all kept a wonderful memory of our stay, and I highly recommend the property.
A warning for those who arrive by car from Merced. To get to the B & B you don't need to drive from the town of Mariposa; you can - many miles before - take the winding, narrow Old Highway (well signposted on the right of modern highway) then cross a lonely region of hills - with a taste of Old American Country - until you finds (always on your right) the road that leads to B & B; that is, Bridgeport Drive (at head of it there's also a sign indicating the B & B).
A last note seems to us a duty. The location of the B & B, and the fact that breakfast is served since 8.30 am, actually prevent you start walking in Yosemite before 11am. Visitors to Yosemite that have more days available may possibly consider to match the experience of this suggestive B & B with more nights into the Park. Where, however, the accomodations are to book well in advance in high season, and are very expensive; otherwise, of poor quality.

I honestly don't know where to start with this review, this place is like a piece of heaven! Its got fabulous views, so much wildlife on the doorstep, lovely cosy rooms but the best thing is Joy and Clay, who own and run this place. When we arrived we found a little note saying they'd popped to the village and would be back around 3pm but feel free to go ahead and make ourselves at home with some instructions about our room so we went ahead and settled in to be warmly welcomed by them in person on their return. We made the most of the verenda with its amazing views and spent some time chatting to Joy and Clay, they really welcome you into their home and are the best hosts giving you hints and tips on the area. They served us the most wonderful breakfast in their kitchen and offered us advice about our plans for the day in Yosemite with directions, places to eat, things to see etc. They were genuinely interested to hear about your plans and what life was like in the UK, places to see etc as we were to hear their stories about where they've lived and how they ended up in Maripose. I've already recommended this place to other people on returning home. We loved Yosemite and plan to come back but we know exactly where we'll be staying when we do...this is the only option for us, we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Hopefully one day this place will get its number 1 ranking for places to stay in Maripose as its so well deserved! When Joy and Clay read this review - thank you again for a wonderful time!!!!

joy and clay are great hosts. sitting on the deck with a glass of wine after a long day in yosemite. priceless. great views, deer, turkey and about 10 birds i had not seen before. cayotes howling at dusk. breakfast is at 830am and is great. stayed 2 nights did yosemite from south gate on second day. mariposa grove. lunch at winona inn and valley at end. great sites and vistas. third day drove over tioga pass to lake tahoe. stayed in sierra room near pool. for me and my wife a once in a lifetime adventure as part of a 2 week trip to california. enjoy. only caviat is that if you want to be at the park first thing in the morning and dont like to drive this is not the place for u. but if your not in a hurry this is a special place.
