I always try to stay at Jamaica bay inn when I visit LA. This trip was a little disappointing. I called ahead to make sure I got my preferred room , but when I got there the choice of room type was not available. I could have gone through Expedia or any other agency but I choose not to because I wanted to request a room type.We ended up paying $321 (after taxes) for 1 night.everyone I saw checking in made trip though Expedia, I bet they got a great price!!! The breakfast in restaurant was just ok and the service was not great...

Room Tip: Bay View with balcony/ some rooms have shores only, while others have bathtub and showers.

Something just didn't click with this hotel and me even though I was upgraded to a room that was crazy large. But maybe it was also an example of why I didn't think it was a great hotel. There was a large seating area in addition to the sleeping area. But it was a disappointment. It had very poor lighting so reading was impossible, the shutters didn't really open all the way so the view of the marina was blocked, and the seating arrangement prevented me from napping on it. :)
But there are some real pluses to the hotel. The room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Even though we were using the self parking, we found the valet staff to be very helpful and friendly. The front desk people just so-so when it came to making us feel welcome and answering pretty basic questions about the area.
The bathroom was nice. But again, the lighting was poor.
The restaurant food was tasty. But I found it weird that on a Sunday at about 3:00pm they stopped serving food for an hour. Why? Of course you could still get a drink. Just seemed weird and not very convenient. Yet another example of something that is just off about the place.
As many reviews note, the location is great. Maybe 15 minutes from LAX. Venice Canals were an easy walk, etc.
The gym is a joke. Something you would expect at a motel.
All in all, I wouldn't rush back. Just didn't think it was worth the money.

Right from when you check in with a very efficient group of staff on the front desk, you cannot help but enjoy your stay here. Rooms have great beds, spacious bathrooms with walk in showers and most have balconies with water views. All in all one of the best places we have stayed in whilst on our trip abroad

We stayed here for a week in August and had a great time. The hotel was extremely clean and well decorated, with very comfortable well equipped rooms. The staff were all very professional, cheerful and always happy to help. There was a good range of choices for breakfast, both the food and service were excellent. The pool although on the small side, was nice. The hotel is a good base to explore LA area, it is approximately 15 minutes walk from Venice beach, with several good restaurants nearby.

We stayed for 2 overnights, one in late July and one in early September, to break our flights between London and New Zealand. The hotel is perfectly positioned and is very smart, clean and comfortable. We were upgraded to a suite on our first visit, second time we had the ordinary room we had booked which was very spacious and more than adequate. Both rooms had balconies with lovely views over the beach and marina and I agree with the reviewer who says the marina view rooms are by far the nicest. We had (at different times) breakfast, lunch and dinner at the beach restaurant and all were good, and we had hotel vouchers which reduced the cost for all of them. The staff here were exceptional - we had great help from Treema on both occasions, especially the first stay when we had a long wait after the 12 noon check-out before leaving for our flight, and she took us to a small room where we could wash and change before we left. However, one of the notable things about this hotel is the friendly atmosphere among all the staff, relaxed but extremely helpful and professional. (I also noticed a number of wheelchair-friendly aspects to the hotel and surroundings, worth checking out if you re looking for an accessible location).

The environment is lovely - easy walks round the nearer parts of the Marina, a short walk to the canals which were well worth visiting, a ferry between the marina locations which sadly this time we didn't have time for. And the beach in front of the hotel is called 'Mothers' Beach', a fantastic community resource with safe fenced off bathing for children, free beach wheelchairs (which actually go into the water!), and covered areas for picnics and barbecues - on Labour Day it was packed with families.

We were a bit apprehensive before we came as it was the first time we'd travelled to and from New Zealand via LA, but it worked out very well. It's only about 20 mins by cab from the airport, and such an easy place to relax.

Room Tip: The marina view rooms, especially on upper floors, are well worth the money. As a couple, we wouldn...

Spent 3 nights at the Jamaica Bay after leaving Vegas on the way to San Francisco and wished we had stayed longer. Short taxi journey from the airport, check in was very quick and all staff very helpful and polite. Room was lovely, nicely decorated clean and beds were really comfortable. Bathroom was really nice although water pressure in shower wasn't on par with Vegas but that's to be expected. Paid a bit more and had room overlooking the marina which is the only one to have as its a lovely view and the other side only has view of the road and car parking. Pool nice but not massive and restaurant serves nice food though not cheap but we enjoyed sitting on the patio overlooking the marina during both breakfast and dinner. For a change the Cheesecake Factory is 5mins walk and serves great food at reasonable cost. Lovely area with easy walking to Venice beach and easy taxi ride to Santa Monica, staff helped us book two trips to take in LA which we really enjoyed. All in all would stay here again in a heartbeat great hotel would thoroughly recommend.P.S in room safe and free wifi a bonus!!

Room Tip: Marina view rooms only ones to have!

DearMarkb67,

We are very happy to hear that you had a lovely visit with us. It was great to hear that you, like many others, found our location and proximity to LAX very convenient. Additionally, the staff is always grateful to be recognized for their service. We are always striving to wow our guests and to hear that the efforts were noticed is fabulous. We are constantly striving to up the ante in our restaurant as well. As you noted the restaurant’s patio overlooks the beach and marina with some of the best food in LA prepared by renowned Chef Allyson Thurber. We hope all of this makes us your home away from home while in LA. We hope to see you back very, very soon!

Warmly,

Shawn Highland

Me and my family recently stayed at the Jamaica Bay Inn on Labor Day weekend. After a long frustrated trip we arrived at the hotel to a kind and warm welcome from Felipe at the front desk. We booked our trip through Travelocity (huge mistake) and apparently they cancelled our room reservations. Felipe took time to find us a room, speak to Travelocity and fixed the issues for us. Throughout our stay, he was gracious, accommodating and did whatever he could to make our stay at your hotel a great experience. Felipe worked hard to make us feel welcome and overall was one of the most amazing front desk clerks we have every encountered. The Hotel was great, clean, hospitable, restaurant was delicious and location heavenly. Our experience with the hotel was nothing but Awesome.

Room Tip: Ask for room that overlooks the Marina.
